Hi

I'm a junior in High school and my GPA isn't so good... yet I still want to attend USNA. I didn't take my SATs yet and I don't know for sure if I will do great enough for Navy to accept me. I was planning on attending 2 years at my local community college then applying for Navy again. Is this a good idea?

Don't sell yourself short yet. Work your butt off, take on leadership roles and show USNA that your grades are on the upswing. Do well on standardized tests. GPA isn't everything!!

If you can financially afford to attend a 4-yr college, that is what USNA prefers. However, they also recognize that not everyone can afford to do that. If you can financially afford to attend CC full-time, you should do that (vs. part-time student).

Grades are only part of the equation. Why aren't your grades good - was it because something was going on in your life, lack of effort or lack of aptitude ? I think the first step would be to identify the problem, then come up with a plan to address it, starting with a strong showing the final year of high school. Also, it will be even more important to have a strong showing on the SAT/ACT to overcome the grades issue.

What are your strengths ? Leadership, athletics, community service ? Standing out in other areas may also help overcome the grades.
