I have been looking on this site for awhile and it seems to me that initially the candidate is competing against people in their district/state for a spot. Is that correct? Maybe once all appointments are made then it becomes a nationwide selection of the waitlist. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

This is what folks mean when they say or ask how 'competitive their district' is - limited nominations in each congressional district. Some districts don't attract as many total candidates and some don't have as many highly qualified candidates. But some are pretty cutthroat for the opposite reasons.

Thanks you. We live in Alabama. I know our district is pretty competitive but the overall state I am not sure about.

Rough rule of thumb.... If the district is competitive, then the state is... surely you're up against the same set of folks for a Senatorial nomination + the rest of the state.

I received a MOC nomination for all 3 academies. I heard that there are very few candidate nomination request in my district. Actually I received 2 from my congressman for my USMA application. What does it mean for me if my district rarely has nomination requests?

MY school is very small and specialized and we do not have varsity teams, although we kind of do if intramural is considered and if that is the case I was on the "varsity team as a freshman through junior year (until our coach left this year and the sports program left too). I also have a LOR from a commander and a LOR from a intelligence officer. MY SAT's and GPA are competitive. Will this all be helpful for my applications?
