Does anyone know what districts are particularly competitive in Minnesota? Just wondering to entertain my speculating brain at the moment ;)

Thanks!

The competitive district is the one you live in where there might be one person with better credentials than you. That's all it takes to be competitive.

Couldn’t multiple students from same district get an appointment as long as the nominator has open spots and the students are nationally competitive?

A district can have multiple appointees in any given year. Not all of a district’s appointees are necessarily charged to the MOC, whether congressman or senator. You may know that each congressman is allotted five spots per SA at any given time — theoretically one for each class plus a spare. But don’t read too much into that. Again, appointments are allotted in different ways. Your own chances don’t necessarily go up or down depending on how many cadets/mids there are from your district.

One person from your nomination source WILL be accepted (if 3Qed that is). If you're the best in nomination source in the eyes of USAFA then you've got it!!! One person from every nom source gets an appointment (assuming 3Q).

Once that first person is selected, the rest are in the NWL and are selected from there in order of merit.

My congressman gave 3 noms out for USAFA and both I and f4wildcatfm2 got an appointment. So it is possible (and common) to have two from the same nom source get it.

Does that make sense? I hope that clears any confusion up. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might ." That's good life advice!! Be the best you can and hopefully you'll be the best with your nominating source, and if not, the best in the NWL!! (even better and more important life advice can be found in Colossians 3:17 ;))

There are 538 members of Congress, so if you were to limit appointments to five for each of them you'd only end up with about 2700 students. There have to be other nomination sources to fill the classes.

Presidential and Vice Presidential nominations are also a factor. Also, if someone is selected out of the national waiting list, and is NOT the first pick for a particular member of congress, they are not charged to that congressman's quota. I want to say they're slated under "superintendent" but someone would have to back me up on that...

Nominations are not the most complicated thing in the world, but they often seem like it!! 😂 it's taken me 3 years to get a good grasp on it and I still don't know everything

Makes total sense!

All of them are! I do know that in District 4 they tend to take more appointees for USAFA. Last year there were 5 for USAFA and only 1 in all the other Service Academies.

5 in one year? That doesn't sound right.

It’s very possible. One or two nominated from the District Representative, another one or two with Senatorial nominations, some with Presidential or ROTC nominations. There are many nomination sources that make it possible to have a high number of appointees from one district. There are some Maryland and Virginia districts that have dozens of appointees.

Yes, that makes perfect sense. Thank you.

Where did you find information like that? I'm not trying to discredit anyone, I'm just wondering where I can find info for other districts

The only reason I know this is that my son received one and our Congresswoman held a reception for all of the Service Academies' Appointees. 2 of the Appointees were recruited hockey players that both played Jr hockey for several years.
