Hello, I am hoping to make it into the academy but I have a question, I know that poor athletic performance can get you in athletic probation and if worse, kicked out but I was wondering how difficult it is to be on a sports team. Would I be expected to be an amazing athlete? Or do they just want you to participate in college sports?

If you haven’t yet read every page, link and dropdown at USAFA.edu, I recommend it. That is your primary source, and many answers are there

You appear to be conflating the physical fitness standards with the required participation in a sport. You will be expected to maintain a certain level of physical fitness, which is regularly tested and graded. This is part of military life. Failure to maintain standards can be a cause for separation.

USAFA is a NCAA Division I School, with high-performing athletes. Not everyone is Div I material. Cadets fulfill their sports participation requirement through intramurals and sports at other levels than NCAA.

My DS played intramural flag football this fall and the required boxing class. You do not need to participate in sports on a team. You do need to be physically fit and be able to pass the CFA's.

If you are not on an intercollegiate team, you'll play intramural sports. The athletic grades are based on your AFT, PFT, and PE class scores.
