My application status has changed to "Complete but Medically Disqualified" but on DoDMERB it still says I am waiting for a waiver from USAFA. Does anybody know what this means? I appreciate any help, thank you.

How long have you been medically DQ? USAFA will initiate the waiver process if they deem your file "competitive". You will be notified if they request a waiver and soon after your DoDMERB status will change. Hope this helps!

There was a post earlier that stated that USAFA was only considering waivers for those applicants that they considered likely to get an appointment (a higher standard than competitive). They made this change to save money by reducing the number of waivers they had to process. I do not know if this is accurate, but it could explain the delay in the waiver process.

My status changed to that as soon as I got the DODMERB DQ. I got a letter on the portal saying they were pursuing a waiver. Then was notified via portal when I received portal.

Been DQ since this Monday. My DoDMERB status says "Pending Waiver Submission/Review". So if my USAFA status says "Complete but Medically Disqualified", does that mean they won't initiate the waiver process?

How did you know they were pursuing a waiver? Email? Status change? ALO notification?

Could you link me to that post? As a waiver recipient this is very interesting...

This is the same situation as me! my portal states the same thing and I am wondering if it means a waiver has not been requested. I have had this for about 2 weeks.

Not necessarily, I was recently granted a medical waiver. I wasn't told they were requesting one, it just popped up on my portal one day. My portal said the same thing for about a month until a waiver was requested so it's hard to tell if they will request one on your behalf. We just have to hurry up and wait!

The dodmerb portal will say "pending waiver review" under each academy that requested a waiver. You have not been denied/granted a waiver until they post a message to your portal that says so.

A letter will pop up on your portal when they request a waiver. It took about two weeks for them to request. Then two more weeks for them to ask for additional information. A month for me to get them the info. Then two months until I received the waiver.

This is how it worked for me. They may not request additional information from you if they have what they need.

On January 31st, I received a letter on my portal informing me they had requested a waiver on my behalf. My requested additional medical information was sent to USAFA on the 28th of February. Approximately how long does it take for them to make their decision? I know during the month of March is when they give most of their appointments. Just nervous at the fact that i'm still Medically disqualified. Any advice moving forward ?

It is just a waiting game. It has only been a week since you sent in the additional information. I just checked the dates 6 weeks between sending in AMI and Waiver. A few of those weeks were over Christmas. You can't do anything but wait. Waiting stinks.

I serve as a Liaison Officer for USAFA and hear more stories every year about perseverance and commitment and how they pay off.. and that's just in the acceptance process.

I know an individual that was medically DQ'd for a hearing issue a few years ago. He stayed after it, but more importantly he was committed to serve. While driving to enlist in late May or early June, he received a call from admissions with a waiver that was tied to a Prep offer. He took it..and then admittedly didn't perform at prep. He recently reapplied for an appointment because (in his words); "I've tried, but I can't enlist because of the hearing issue. USAFA has proven they will take me if I do things right academically. I want to serve so that is why I'm reapplying."

My DD had DODMERB DQs on 2 occasions. Her file had sat dormant for 1 month + at DODMERB. She stayed after it and got someone that would followup. They worked hard on their end, because she had followed through with every request they had. Key to her appointment: she kept after them and continued to complete challenges and more forward when things seemed hopeless. She finally received her BFE 2 days before HS graduation in '08.

I have other stories, but you see the pattern: be proactive as you are your only advocate and the only one that can insure your file is getting reviewed.

a) Contact your admissions counselors - yes, they are VERY busy this time of year, but as an ALO that used to discourage candidates bothering them, they have told me that they want that connection with the candidate that REALLY burns to be an AF officer. Make them your advocate, but don't blow smoke at them. They can smell it a mile away. They are especially sensitive to calls from moms & dads and if they feel families want you at AFA more than you do.

b) Contact DODMERB - You will likely have a DODMERB contact too. Reach out to them and make sure they have all that they need or offer to get them more. ie - My DD saw another physician on her time/dime and sent them the results. As noted, due to a position/job/personnel change those were not reviewed. When she found that out she asked if they would assign her a re-evaluation. They gave her a few more hoops to jump through and more specifics and she did those too. After the medical eval checked out in her favor an appointment soon followed.

Good luck.

Good Morning
Last evening my application status changed to "Complete but Medically Disqualified" but on DoDMERB it still says I am waiting for a waiver from SA.
I spoke with admission counselors this morning and waiting for a review. I broke my foot last August playing lacrosse and had surgery. I have completely healed and have been playing lacrosse since Jan. with no problems. The surgeon has provided information to DODMERB, but they are requesting additional information. Since this is so late in the process, do you have any recommendations or direction to change the DQ into a WAIVER?
I have a 760 in Math on SAT, 3.97 GPA, Captain of my tennis team, member of STEM, and NOMS from Sen/Cong & Presidential. I have been qualified Academically & Physically. I appreciate any help, thank you.

My portal just recently displayed this message as well and I'm a little worried. It says it only for this school and none of the other SA's. They sent me a message saying that they need to measure my body fat, is it just that part that's DQing me?
