Computer preference option pkg ($350) for class 2018.
Docking station: anyone know what laptop will be issued?
USB keyboard/mouse: is wireless ones allowed?
Monitor: what size monitor? what is the limitation on the monitor size?
Multi-function inkjet printer: what brand/model? Does cadet allowed to receive online orders?

Thanks in advance.

Computer Package....

On your portal, there are two options. The basic, computer and the "delux" package. I would encourage you to get the "delux" package. It will be difficult to mooch of your friends for paper and print things out. The Cadet store has all the supplies they will need. Through USAA insurance can be purchased to protect your stuff. You can not bring your own stuff. All of the cadet software and hardware will be supported. They have an IT department to handle all this stuff for them.

Yes they can order stuff and have it shipped to themselves.

Actually, you can bring your own stuff, AFTER beast, but you cannot connect any of it to the network. Many kids have apple laptops and such for their iTunes and games, and use Starbucks and the like for internet access, or a smart phone as an access point.

For the academic work, most of the cadets buy the full package, which are usually reasonably high end dell laptops, with their own printer/scanner and the remote display. I haven't heard of anyone being unhappy with the system.

Oooops forgot to tell you....

No thumb drives. They are not allowed anywhere at WP

Actually, I got the deluxe package this year for $500 or something like that, and I can attest that it is not worth it, if you actually care about the quality of your electronics. The mouse is awful, the external keyboard is awful, the printer is decent but still pretty bad. Only the dock is worth it, and with back to school deals online, I found a better mouse and keyboard combo for $50 all wireless, not wired like the deluxe package. Sure you have to worry about buying extra things online, but in the end I was dissatisfied with the deluxe package.

wp_usna, it's actually a really good small laptop. It's a Lenovo x230 thinkpad. Lots of RAM and a pretty good amount of cache.

So do they also give you another monitor to go with that that you can hook up for a bigger screen? Or do you have to purchase that yourself?

Computer can change year to year. Same for printers. Bookstore has cartridges for several different printers.

DS chose not to do the option pack, ended up with better accy including printer for much less.

Don't know where the USB drive concern came from, part of the option pack is a USB external drive. Back up your files, first step of any goldcoat resolution is to reimage the laptop drives.

Also end of year there are many large monitors floating around as firsties often ditch them apparently.

There is no bad answer... Don't want to fool with things, get the option. Already have printer, mouse, kbd, surge protector you like, have them sent for a-day. You can buy the docking adapter once you know the laptop model if you want one.
