Computer Monitors

Would anybody know if those monitors with built-in TV tuner are allowed for C4C ?

I know that they won't be able to use the TV tuner since TVs are only allowed for C1C but I was wondering if only plain monitors are allowed. My son is planning to buy a monitor/TV this Black Friday but I'm telling him to think ahead in case he gets accepted to USAFA.

Thanks.

Okay, so I am confused. Do they not provide you with a computer and monitor once the Ac Year starts?

You are issued the notebook. The monitor is something you buy if you'd like.

So, the give you a laptop? Then why would you buy a monitor? You would still have to buy the actual PC... Just confused is all.

You can buy a monitor without buying the computer along with it. I bought my 24" Dell for about $250. As for why, it's just nice to have the extra screen space. For school, it allows you to be able to have multiple applications open on the screen (IE and MS Word for example) rather than having to switch back in forth.

Laptops have external ports for an external keyboard, monitor, mouse, etc.... This way; when you're doing homework and such in your room, you don't have to be looking at a small screen and working on a small keyboard. You are not required to purchase a large monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.... if you don't want to. But it can be a lot easier if you choose to. Just like a printer. You can use the "Common" printer down the hall, but if you want to have your own printer, you are free to do that. Hope that makes sense. Mike....

Besides computer, printer, scanner, etc. what other electronics can you have during your first year? Can I bring my iPod or does it stay behind :frown:

You can bring an iPod, but you won't be able to use it until after Recognition.

Phones you get back earlier.
Cameras are a go, as soon as BCT is over.
Video games only after Recognition.

Other??

So should I just have my parents bring what I can have over parent weekend or bring it on I-Day and let the academy hold onto it?

Have your parents bring it or ship it. You do not want to be carrying around much of your own stuff on I-Day. And there's always a chance things can get lost during basic. One flight's cell phones went missing... I think I heard they were accidentially thrown away.

The cell phones of 4 digs in my entire squadron was thrown away, accidentally. They did pay back for those of us that still kept the reciepts for the phone, but for me, I was out of luck. Try to have as little of your possessions as possible in upperclassmen's hands, even if it means you get it later (after PW or Recognition).
