We are looking through the TONS of stuff to get my DS ready. He just recently accepted his appointment. So many questions... LOL

Here is the first - There is a slide in all the Admission Packets stuff of a Dell laptop and some accessories... no other info, but in reading another thread they mentioned buying all this as a package from the school? Or are these suggestions? Kinda lost... did we miss a memo?

The Dell laptop is issued, the computer package is a separate option.
issued? For real? Where does it say that? Not that I doubt you were just new to all this and my DS is a first ever in our family to make it into USMA

I think if you search it up there’s something on USMA’s website saying so. The computers are indeed issued (although the cost is taken out of the cadet account, I believe). You can opt for either the premium package with extras such as a monitor and a printer (~400? extra dollars to be taken out of the cadet account) or the standard package with the computer and associated cables, but nothing else (if the cost of computers are to be taken out of the cadet account then the only cost of this package will be the computer itself).

Correct, they laptop as well as all their uniforms are issued, and the cost is part of the cadet loan that is paid off through their time at USMA. The laptop wont be given to them until after the March Back. Its part of what they are doing between March Back and ADay. The "premium" package adds a monitor (very useful) and a printer (not as useful, my DS stores his in the trunk room.) If you are more interested in what is isueed, and how the cadet loan works, see this sample from the 2023/24 year:

Just my guess why computer/laptop is issued

The computer (laptop) is going to be on USMA network so it has to be in compliance with certain standard (security patch etc). Printer, Display and other are optional -- you can bring your own or pay $400 to buy the package offered by USMA

Would like to recommend against opting for the computer package. Cadets sell their monitors for very cheap (like $20-30 bucks, mine was given to me by another cadet) and the printer is not easy to set up (and every company/most academic buildings/the library have printers)

Yeah

The wireless mouse, monitor, and docking station are the biggest things I've used from the package. The printer.. I don't even want to talk about it. I'm honestly surprised I haven't thrown it in the trash to be honest. Each company has their own company printer and you can only use the computer package printer with a printer cord. E.g. You can't connect it to the WIFI to print wirelessly. At least I haven't figured it out.
