As I understand it, the Air Force has been given the responsibility to secure and defend computer networks for all 3 branches of the military.

Since my son is not currently pilot qualified (eyesight) and may not ever be, he is interested in this as a career option (among others).

Can anyone tell me if I have my facts straight and whether this is an option for an academy graduate?

It seems to me that these people would be highly prized in the private sector especially if they have accumulated leadership / managerial responsibility along with the specialized knowledge in this field.

Thanks,

I believe that's what is going on. The Air Force mission is to "...to fly and fight in air, space, and cyberspace."

Probably would be valued individuals.

In the movie Terminator 3, it was an Air Force officer who gave the command to activate SKYNET - the computer network that becomes self aware and decides that humans are the enemy and launches the nukes to destroy mankind. Maybe my son, could be that guy that stops him! :thumb:

Hornetguy is right, there is a lot of value placed on this section of the AF mission, especially recently. There's always going to be a demand for this in the AF as well as the civilian/private sector.
