Computers

The paticular model that the Academy uses is no longer supported. The warranties for the class of 2012 will continue, mostly thanks to the helpdesk, but I was informed by the comm squad that we shouldn't be getting Fujitsus.

As to dell not having tablets... http://www.dell.com/tablet

Ahh. Thanks good to know. I did a quick glance through of Dell's website but obviously did not look hard enough. And while it is not a Mac, it does look like it would do. It is interesting to note though that the starting price for that model is $2390. I think I remember seeing the Fujitsu model was around $1500.

It's a nice computer, I doubt they'll be sold to the academy at that price. And I also doubt we'd get such advanced computers. It's good to dream though lol

haha by the looks of that picture, it has an X-Ray machine built in...

Just curious, where is news that it is no longer available coming from? The computer can still be bought of Fujitsu's website...

And I did not think that Dell made tablet notebooks. Not sure about that though.

According to this newsfeed, http://www.businesswire.com/portal/...d=news_view&newsId=20080929005259&newsLang=en the current contract for cadet Fujitsu tablets runs only until 2008, so I'm sure it's something new this year - just don't know what.

I remember the cadet budget sheet handed out at Orientation said something like $2100 for computers and accessories, plus another $160 or so for licenses. But even if we do get Dells, I'm sure they'll give significant discount for buying 1500 (including faculty) of them at once.

Pretty sure they won't switch us over to Vista. Although I'm not sure.

yeah i thought the same thing

I am pretty sure they will switch to Vista. A lot of features and components of the newer generations of laptops are no longer compatible with XP.

The good news is I beta tested Win 7 which ran much smoother and it shouldn't be much longer before it is released. After it is released it will still be six months to a year before it gets DoD approval so I would say to look for it sometime during our 3* year and hopefully the upgrade will be free off the network. :thumb:

i heard rumors that we (2012) were supposed to get vista. but alot of things here probably wont work with anything but xp (they load your computer with 1200 software programs that really slow it down) so i dunno if they'll upgrade yall to vista or not

I've never used Vista before...

OPERATING SYSTEM SHOCK! Worse than academic shock... yeah right

Now this sounds like something a girl would say. Just kidding Katie. I could not pass up saying this but it is in fun.

I realized just after I hit Submit Reply that a number of people were going to think this was funny but a lot of girls might not like what I said, so I also want to apologize to them because in this Politically Correct world I wouldn't want make anyone feel uncomfortable.

Haha I'm offended!

But really, when guys say that I take it more as a joke...then as a challenge to take them down! :shake:

ouch... look out lig.. she's out for you... as for vista... i'd rather not get a computer lol...

Hi...So have they figured out what computer '13 is getting? Just wondering.
