My DS just received his nomination to USMMA from Senator Marco Rubio in the mail today.:thumb: He had received an LOA in early October. I'm a very proud Mom!

Congratulations! You should be very proud! Enjoy every last minute of him being home and begin to look forward to the amazing ride you have just embarked on! Welcome to the KP family. :beer1:

Nooshoos, congratulations! My DS is home for the first time since he left for Indoc (on his own on July 6). It has been an amazing year since last Thanksgiving. Do out on your seatbelt and grab a barf bag and tissues just in case. It gets bumpy.
Btw love your handle! All aboard!

Congrats to you and your DS. If you havent visited Kings Point yet you should plan a visit iether now or after it warms up in the spring. Its been a really cool journey so far. My DS is in the class of 2015 and couldnt be happier with his decision. The stage you just completed with nomination and acceptance I thought was way more stressfull than the seperation anxieties once their gone.

Congratulations to you and your DS! Strap in. It's quite the roller coaster ride. Welcome to the family!

Would you mind letting us know your son's SAT/ACT score and GPA and if he had any other significant factors considered the admissions people. This might be helpful to me and others trying to figure out our chances.

Thanks

He took his ACT and SAT several times in his Junior year. His best scores were the SAT M-740 V-660.
His GPA is a 3.9W. Almost every one of his classes has been either IB or AP. He is very involved in the community with over 550 service hours. He is in NJROTC and is on all of the teams. He is the Academic Team Commander and Asst. Commander for the Athletic Team. He is also involved in NHS, Interact and our Church Youth group. He is on the Golf and Track Teams and was on the JV football team. He has 2 varsity letters. He went to Air Force Summer Seminar, Boys State, NJROTC leadership academy and the SAME camp at USAFA this past summer. He also received a NROTC scholarship to Embry Riddle on the first board.
That's his quals in a nutshell. This board has really helped him in the Service Academy process. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here! If you have any questions you can always PM me.

Thanks for all the well wishes from the KP family...I feel as if I already know some of you after being on this board for a couple of years and following your stories!

Nooshoos, your DS is indeed a very impressive young man! Bill, fear not, my DS's resume wasn't nearly as impressive , lol

Thanks Lynpar, I tell him he looks good on paper..haha!

Bill, everyone brings something different to the table...it's all about the whole person. While it's interesting to know every one's stats...they can't really determine what your chances are. My DS has been discouraged on several occasions when he's seen candidates with better grades get turned away.

Rubio nomination

Glad to hear your good news. I was surprised to hear your DS received notification from Senator Rubio's office already. I thought letters were going out 12/5. My DS is still waiting to hear from his office. Did your DS interview for any of the other academies or just USMMA?

Welcome to the KP family, don't forget the bubble wrap. If you have any questions just pm or post.

DS interviewed with both Senators and listed USNA first and KP second, but mentioned in the interview with Senator Rubio's staff that he had an LOA and was very interested in KP.
DS said Senator Rubio's office called him about a week ago to see if he was still interested in KP. He was surprised to get the nom in the mail as he also thought they were to go out on 12/5. He has not heard anything from Senator Nelson. Our Congressman says he will wait for the Senators to make their nom choices before he announces his because they all talk and will not double nominate. Hope that helps. Good luck to you and your DS.

Thanks for the feedback. DS also has a LOA from KP and received a similar call from Senator Rubio's office asking about his interest in KP so hopefully he'll be receiving a letter soon. Did your DS also get a nomination to USNA from Senator Rubio?

Congrats!!!!!!! That's awesome news! Welcome aboard to the USMMA! You have a HUGE reason to celebrate! :jump1:

PS.. in the SPRING (about April time frame) there will be a SPRING OPEN HOUSE FOR NEW APPOINTEES. We went to this last year with our DS. It "confirmed" his decision to attend the academy... but most importantly, it was a WEALTH OF INFORMATION! I HIGHLY recommend going. The info we learned there made reporting to INDOC a very smooth thing. pm me if you have any ?'s. congrats again!

Or read every word on this forum from the beginning page forward. It takes awhile but you will learn a lot about the culture of KP and laugh frequently as well. Schedule a student overnight ( just for the candidate) and connect with the other parents in your area. They may have gone ( or will go) to open house and will be able to share any new information. Having another "Mom friend" in our area has been a real benefit. I thought it was nice to get that contact going before they went but now that they are there it truly has been helpful in so many ways. :thumb:

so true
