Confused about bringing luggage

Ah.....I was wondering ....years ago, basics brought boots that they had to wear.
 
Back in the day the boots needed breaking in. Now, not so much . . .

I wonder....do guys really need to bring anything other than paperwork? I look at the photo posted above and it seems that there is so much "stuff" in those back packs. What could a guy really need to bring besides paperwork and perhaps a razor (or is even that supplied)? Someone posted to bring toothbrush and toothpaste but I would "guess" that that too is supplied. So 2018, 2017, and 2016 what REALLY did you need to bring as a BASIC?

For girls...my understanding is that they need to bring sport bras. IMHO 4-5 of these would not take up much room. If they need more, perhaps they can have M&D ship more to a sponsor for Doolie day out? Or are the Basics not allowed to bring back anything from Doolie Day out? Extra underpants perhaps too but again they don't take up much room. Shampoo/conditioner? What do girls really need beyond the above + paperwork? If it were me, I'd go as LIGHT as possible. IF you are already in CS, and 2016, 2017 and 2018 response with more specifics....ship the extras home on Wednesday.
 
Appointees get a list of items that they should bring: underwear, toiletries, etc. Honestly, don't bring more than what they say.

I don't remember my DD's backpack being all that heavy. And you really don't want to start out with a heavy backpack. Things will get heavy pretty quickly once they start getting all their issued items.

Some might be Preppies and will bring back some uniforms like ABUs and boots so they don't have to "buy" new ones.

Do Preppies report on I Day or do they go in with the priors a few days early?

For reporting into the Prep school Priors have an earlier report date than everyone else. For I-day at the AFA they will report in the same day as everyone else.

Makes them stand apart and be very intimidating. But Basics will forget the berets and confuse Upperclassmen Cadets for Cadre. Upperclassmen during the summer will be wearing the abu cap.
I confused it a lot last year, but it was most likely just tiredness.

Just a thought...wearing boots on I-Day may bring a little extra (unwanted) attention :eek:
Leave them at home, have mom/dad ship them to you after BCT or bring them PW. Won't be able to wear them until after BCT anyway, will have to wear issued boots during BCT.

Some Squads won't let you wear them until after recognition.
Others will let you after Christmas
