Confused about nomination?

I just received a letter from my Senator's committee and it reads as

"Congratulations on the receipt of your nomination to attend the United States Military Academy for the class of 2016 throught President Barak Obama"

Then it transitions over to

"However, since you received a Presidential Nomination a nomination throught my office is not needed. Eliminating duplicate nominations between nominating sources allows us to offer nominations to more outstanding young people."

So my confusions is.... did I get the Primary slot, but lost it because of my other nomination?

I suppose that's possible. However:
1. Why do you think you already had the Primary slot from the Senator?
2. Why do you think you already had any nomination slot from the Senator?

As I read what you quoted it sounds like they were informed you recieved a Presidential Nomination and they therefore decided not to give you a slot. That's too bad as it puts you in a different pool, but there is no indication the Senator was even planning on awarding you one of his/her slots anyway.

BTW, don'tknow if this was an issue for you, but I wouldn't read "more outstanding young people" as people more qualified than you. I would read it as if it were "other outstanding young people" which is what I'm sure they meant. They could have worded it better.

Well to make slots open for people who don't yet have a Nom, if they notice you have one then they will not award you another one so that the nom can be recycled and given to someone else. Congrats though on our Pres Nom!
