Hello!!

Just today, something very bizarre happened. I am not sure if this is a mistake or a rare event, but here goes:

I have been given an appointment to the CGAS Program on December after completing an application in the early action process. I have finished and completed all my paperwork (and even joined the CGAS Facebook Page!). HOWEVER, just today I received an email stating that my admissions status has been updated and that I should check my application. And so I do, and there, it states that I have been accepted into the Class of 2020 (Direct admission).

Could this be a mistake? Does this happen regularly? I am so full of many questions...

No it is not common but not impossible.
What if someone decides not to accept their Coast Guard Academy appointment directly to CGA; do people going into the Scholar Program get to fill those slots?
A: No, not normally. If spots open up for a direct appointment, and your file is competitive enough to fill that spot, it could happen. It's unlikely, but it's possible
From scholars q and a ....:)

I read that somewhere before but never thought it would actually happen to me. Thank you so much!!

Let us know after you call, if you did in fact get a slot for the class of 2020. CGAS is a great way to start but if you get to go directly to the academy, that would be great. Please keep us updated. I am interested to know. My son has also been selected for CGAS and we are just waiting on which prep school he will be attending.

That statement is from Admissions (in the Cadet Handbook I think, I haven't looked it up again). It is rare, but happens, and happened to you.

ADMISSIONS HOTLINE: 800.883.USCG (8724)

Several of us are Admissions Partners, that is, volunteers for Admissions. Grevar is one, Alaska66 is another. We do have information not generally available to the public, but are not involved in final admissions decisions.

Objee speaks directly from Admissions.

Congrats!

Call Admissions at the number provided above. What you described can and does happen occasionally.

I verified with my Admissions Partner and it is true: I am in the Class of 2020! There seems to have been some open spots available so the admissions board moved some people from the waitlist/CGAS up to a direct admission.

Congratulations to your son. CGAS is an excellent program, as you may already know, and I was looking forward to it initially. You should be proud of what your son has accomplished!

How exciting for you! Congratulations! If you don't mind our asking ( no pressure!) what were your SAT/ACT scores and your weighted/unweighted GPA? Any other factors such as recruited athlete, etc.? Did they tell you what was the deciding factor to change you from CGAS to direct? Just want to get an idea of what kind of numbers would be considered borderline CGAS/direct appointment.
