Confusion with DQ for NROTC

Hi! I have been DQ'ed with history with a head injury (concussion from sports), history of adjustment disorder, and eyesight greater than -8.00 diopters.

The problem is I was misdiagnosed with adjustment disorder, I never had it. Along with that, when I had my eyesight checked and it came out with -8.50 diopters, I thought it was really weird since in less than 4 months from my annual eye check up it went from -6.50 diopters to -8.50 which was really alarming. I got my eyesight checked at two other facilities and it came out as -6.50 diopters. When I tried to explain this situation earlier this year to people at DoDMERB, they were pretty unhelpful and said we can't change it even if doctors say you don't have adjustment disorder and if you're eyesight was wrong "too bad".

I'm just frustrated and disappointed with the whole experience, and I'm really worried that my NROTC scholarship will get ripped out of my hands because of this...I don't know what to do please help!

Who diagnosed you with adjustment disorder?
I was referred to a psychologist after a concussion, he said I had stress adjustment disorder. I looked into it myself and thought I didn't have it. I later got more outside opinions from psychologists and psychiatrists who also came to the conclusion I did not have stress adjustment disorder. I think he was trying to rip me off.

Where are you in the DoDMERB process. You say you have been DQ, which would be appropriate for the results from the eye exam and history of adjustment disorder. But have you been denied a waiver? Did you get a remedial request? Did DoDMERB ask for additional information or testing? When the remedial information is requested that is the best opportunity to supply the information to dispute the misdiagnosis.

A waiver has been sent and is pending review, they haven't asked for more information yet. If the waiver is denied, I would like to dispute it.

You want to be in front of the process and get the best information to the waiver authority via DoDMERB BEFORE your waiver is rejected. Having a rejected waiver overturned is a steep uphill battle. It is much easier to get the information reviewed prior to a waiver decision than after.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! I'm working closely with a LCDR to help me navigate this situation so hopefully this all turns out well!
