Congratulations to the 197 graduates of the class of 2009 who graduated on June 22 (including son of JAMZMOM -sounds like a horror movie doesn't it?). "Fair winds and Following Seas" to all of them and especially the 58 who are enroute to active duty assignments in all branches.

Many thanks Bruno. It was a once in a lifetime event. Laughing, crying, exhausting, crazy, smacking good fun. The Jamz was very humbled that a three star AF General did his commissioning & swore him in most officially. The smacking part was where Jamz picked me up & swirled me around in front of said General. It was an amazing few days. I think all the guys made us eat at every deli in NYC. I am craving a big mac. LOL My newly minted 2nd Lt. is pretty happy to be home for a few weeks before beginning new adventures.

I think the active duty numbers are incorrect as we counted around 70 Mids on graduation day. Some won't be sworn in active duty for a few months due to other obligations & timelines so perhaps they did not make the official count. About 1/3 of the class went active this year.

Congrats Jamzmom Does anyone know the breakout of the services? Just curious where all the grads are off to.

Fifty-eight members of the 2009 class were commissioned for active military service: 15 in the U.S. Navy: 12 in the Marine Corps; 19 in the Coast Guard; 3 in the Air Force; and 6 in the Army. In addition, 2 graduates took reserve commissions in the Army National Guard, and 1 graduate entered the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Actually I am told that 8 commissioned directly into the Marine Corps and the rest are going to Quantico for OCC

Jamz is a guinnea pig of sorts. He is the first AF guy to direct commission from KP without having to go to field training. This is a new program for KP.

It was good meeting you guys Graduation Weekend! Cograts on the AF direct...that's going to be a great asset for the students at the academy.

Can you believe that only 4 short years ago, we were dropping our kids off...in the rain...not knowing what was going to happen. It was really befitting it ended the way it started.

You know...it really did go by fast!

Again...Congrats:thumb:

HA HA. And don't ya gotta wonder whats in a "screwie lewie" on that menu anyway? Sounds like some arteries are gonna be clogged for weeks over that sammich. Glad I got the tuna. LOL I love that deli. Good thing the Jamz pointed ya'll out or I would have missed the happy day of all being in NY for a grand celebration. I ended the journey where I begin it..... In the rain at the Deli on the Green. Awesome.

I have been sorta out of the loop the last few weeks, and I just wanna give all our recent grads and their parents (esp the parents) a great big ol' hug!

I am not sure how I feel about '09 graduating, they have always been there since my son started, and now my son has one more year.

and the new plebes arrrive today....

And if my son can get thru this place with many of a sleepless nights on my part due to his grades, any person can get thru this place.

I am SO proud of all the recent grads and the new 1/C'ers... And I will be scouring the photos this year to find my kid, but he shoud be easier to find this time :)

And Jamzmom... you promise to stick around here to cheer on the new parents and plebes?

DogCarbon, I sure recall how very good it felt to finally get that 1/c Mid. Almost there! Congrats! Lots of crazy goes on this last year so beware. Those guys tend to get a little sassy towards the end. Some seem to revert back to the good old days of Plebe complaining. LOL Send a George Foreman grill. That helps.

I'll be hanging around. No worries. They keep me locked in the basement here watching out for bad spammers. I also keep the first aid department well stocked for all "my" KP parents.

GOOD LUCK TO THE CANDIDATES & PARENTS THIS DAY!! Free band-aids to all!

Congrats to your son, Jamzmom, and to you and your family!!

Blue Skies to Jamz!
