Hi everyone!

My name is Danielle and I'm in the process of applying to Kings Point. Two of my interviews are next week and one is in December. I was just wondering what I should wear to these interviews. I know I should dress businesslike, but I'd like something a little more specific. I've looked online for answers but most answers are directed towards men. I've also been reading a book about how to get into a service academy and it says women should NOT wear slacks or pantsuits, but this book is from 1997. I'm assuming they've loosened the reins a bit since then but I'd just like to make sure.
I'm super nervous for this interview and the last thing I want is for me to look AND sound like a fool. Please help!

I'm not a KP grad - son is - but my thought as a woman in a profession is to go with a skirt suit, not a pantsuit. Even in this day and age, there are folks who do not like seeing women in pantsuits. (I had a boss once who expressly told us not to wear pants to work.) Also, at graduation this past June the vast majority of women in the graduating class wore skirts rather than pants.

As an interview panelist for an MOC I have seen it all. Pant suit is fine as long as it fits you well and is in good taste. Nothing too tight, too bright or top under the jacket too low cut. Conservative designers are your best choice. Also wear a conservative heel, 2-3 inch pump - please no 5 inch platforms even if you're 5 foot tall. Go looking professional, be prepared, act professionally, show your substance and do your very best. Good Luck! Any other questions- send me a PM.

Don't be nervous. I know its hard to imagine at this point, but there are an infinite number of pathways to happiness and success. Even if you don't get a nomination so what? Life goes on.

The less important you feel this singular moment is to your success and happiness in life, the less you feel the need to be nervous.

The interviewing team will want to see how you handle yourself, whether or not you feel you have answers to their questions. Pull up a chair to the table if they leave one off to the side. Make your presence take command of the room. Your ability to sound intelligent, not go off on tangents shows you can focus. Don't feel you HAVE to answer right away. A thoughtful thought process is shows how you think. Ask questions if you need clarity. Be YOURSELF. Take a big breath before you enter the room and show them what you've got! Those on interviewing teams are so happy to see young men and women who want to serve their country and feel our country in the future will be in great hands. Good luck!

Good luck! I just had interviews for both Senators last week for USMMA. I think I used that same book, "The Naval Academy Candidate Book" by William Smallwood? Don't be nervous. That book prepared me enormously. I feel like I annihilated those interviews.

Just an update - everything went exceptionally well! I've received 2 nominations so far and have yet to hear from the third. Thank you all for your help! :)
