My DS had one of his congressional interviews today (senate). It was via skype and he joined the skype lobby 15 minutes early. He waited 30 minutes and then received an email. Turns out that he was given the incorrect link for the interview. He then joined the correct link and the committee introduced themselves and asked a few questions. The interview lasted 4 minutes. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Stinks that tech issues intervened. But it’s done. Don’t be alarmed by the short interview time. It’s more common than you think.

If it were my kid, and they wanted to leave a strong impression, I’d suggest that they write a short, sincere thank-you note to the MOC staffer who runs the nom process. Just say how you were pleased to be interviewed and that it further cemented your desire to attend. It may have zero effect or it may have great effect. I’m old school when it comes to these things and staffers are human — they respond in some way to these types of things.

Beyond that, be satisfied that you did the best you could. No point wringing your hands about it or lamenting what might have been. If there are more nom interviews coming up, apply learning from this experience to be even better.

That really sucks. Sorry that happened to your DS. I'm also using Skype today and am concerned about this very thing happening. I practiced with it and it seemed to go in and out to begin with....ugh...and then "catch up"

Yes... he downloaded the app the night before and practiced. Stayed home from school, dressed in suit, and well-prepared. Frustrating that he got only 4 minutes due to a faulty link...

Yep. I'm leaving school shortly to do the same thing. Hope he has another opportunity.
