Hello Again,
How can you find out when the Congressional Nomination Applications first open up? I am graduating in 2019, and thus I'll be a member of the class of 2023, and I was wondering when the earliest possible moment is for me to apply for nominations. I have already checked the website, but the website only says “Apply now for the class of 2022”. I am going to contiune to check early and often but if anyoen can give me a rough estamite or even a date that would be great. ALSO, I live right outside of D.C. So it is going to be competitive getting a nomination any advice?
 
Each congressman's timeline is different. Check their individual websites for instruction and timelines for each one.

And call to double check. Our MOC website is out of date and hasn't been updated in 2 years. Same with one Senator.
 
It's usually in the spring or summer, if it appears the website is out of date and not updated I would second to give them a call. Each MOC staff usually has a service academy coordinator that handles that. You can usually take a look at the prior year to get a good idea of what will be required of your MOC.

I wish I can help, but I graduate in 2019 and submit my resume this spring/summer.
 
Hey there, for the class of 2023 that should be opening up next year by April 1st (2018). Until then, start talking to teachers to get you letters of rec and all that. Can never be early for all that stuff, so by the time the applications open, straight out of the gate you'll be ready to go. Wish you luck!
 
Contact the service academy coordinator for the MOC. This is a congressional staffer who puts together all the candidate packages for the committee to review.

Be honest and explain the error and if you are fortunate, polite and professional, he or she will allow you to replace the doc.

Do NOT tick this person off. The coordinator is the right hand of the Senator or congressman on all things regarding the Academies. If they say no...accept it and move on.

Someone else has started a similar thread on the USAFA section. Submitting your application for a NOM is NOT a race and there are no 'bonus' points for being one of the first to apply. Typically, MOC will accumulate applications until the deadline has passed and then schedule the interviews. Those doing interviews will generally schedule them during Q4. Submitting a complete and accurate application is more important then rushing to submit something with errors. Take the time to do it right and follow the instruction on their website since each MOC runs their own process.
 
Hello Again,
I would like to send letters of recommendation to 4 people: My Congressman, my Senators, and the Vice President of the United States of America. I was wondering if I should have the four individuals who are willing to write a letter of recommendation for me, write out four copies of the letter of recommendation. And ask them if they wouldn't mind changing the name and address at the top: E.I. Dear Mr. Senator-Blank and have the address at the head of the letter be something similar to this

Or should I ask them to make one copy with "dear to whom it may concern." Thus forcing me to use the same generalized letter of recommendation.
I am not sure which one to ask for them so I appreciate any help I can get, thank you!

Wait until you know what LORs are required. You don't want to send LORs that are not required. I believe you stated you are a junior, plenty of time. You still have 6-12 months to build yourself and your resume. If they are done now, you are shorting yourself. Yes let your counselor, teachers and coaches know that you plan to seek an appointment and will be coming to them in spring and summer for LORs, CFA and other items. Focus on building your resume, mapping out classes for this year and next (per the USNA recommendations), attend a MOC SA night, volunteer, get in shape and start practicing the CFA, gather documentation for awards and medical records, and have a study plan for your SAT/ACT. Be prepared to apply for NASS when it opens next year. I believe USNA has a timeline on what to focus on at different stages; read the entire USNA admissions website several times.

NavyHoops' advice is spot on. Some MOCs require LOR's from certain people, i.e. one must be a counselor or school official, one must be a peer, one must be a member of the community, etc. Some have their own form your recommenders must use, some require 2, some 3, some 4. Some require they be mailed separately in a sealed envelope, some want them submitted with the rest of your nom application. So you are just spinning your wheels by trying to do this now. In the spring or early summer of your junior year, log on to each MOC's website and find out exactly what they require in their applications. Submit exactly what they request, nothing more, nothing less.

Also, for USNA at least, no additional letters of recommendation are required for the VP Nom. The LOR's you submitted with your USNA app are sufficient.
 
Each MOC may have different methods for submitting as well as different requirements on who they come from. We had one MOC that required the entire packet submitted at one time. The required LORs were to be placed in a sealed envelope with the author's signature over the seal. You will need to research each MOC separately and follow their guidance.
