congressman communications

Hello, I'm a junior in High School and am interested in attending West Point. Would it be a good idea to just send an email over to my congressman ir their nomination staff saying hello and giving some information about myself?

I'd say so, as long as it's professional and polite enough.
My congressman was very involved with the local school district, so by the time the 5-10 students in the county per year that were interested in SA's were ready for the nomination process, we had already interacted with the congressman and members of his board several times.
