Howdy, I was wondering if anyone had any luck having a statistics teacher count as a math recommendation for the application. I'm a third time reapplicant but there isn't a math class that fits my schedule.

I plan on emailing an admissions counselor to see what the final answer is but I was wondering if anyone had any success because I already used by junior year high school trig teacher and senior year calculus teacher.

thanks

Why wouldn't you? Statistics is a distinct mathematical science.

If that's the only math you're taking, then that's the teacher who gives you the recommendation. You work with what you have and put forth the best application that you can. Hopefully you're doing well in the class, have a good rapport with the teacher, and the teacher knows how much your application means to you.

The USNA evaluations can be tough for college students because of the time frame. The colleges dropping classes last minute make it even more difficult. My ds ended up taking an English class that would not transfer because he needed an English course professor for the USNA evaluation.

Ehh. Kinda. Plenty of schools it is seperate from the math department. It is very much it's own thing, I understand OPs hesitation.

USNA asks for specific teachers to submit an EVALUATION (not a RECOMMENDATION) that includes a number of specific questions. You can search older threads as I believe some of these mention the types of questions being asked. Many in college also re-apply so you aren't the first candidate in this situation. If you believe you have a unique situation not covered by the official USNA application website, then I would contact them to get further guidance.

I would check with Admissions. My daughter used her AP Stats teacher for her math recommendation as that was the only math she had Junior/Senior year but Admissions would not accept it and allowed her to submit a recommendation from her Sophomore year Calculus teacher.

Admissions will work with you on who to use for the math evaluation. Just make sure you contact them and let them know. I am a fifth time applicant and have not taken English since high school as my junior and senior year AP classes validated it for college so I have a little experience with figuring out what classes to use but every scenario is different. Once you get a portal log in, reach out to your admissions contact and ask them about it/let them know. They will either ok it or they will tell you which class/professor to use instead. The sooner you let admissions know, the sooner they will tell you how to proceed which means the sooner you can reach out to the respective professor/teacher to make sure they have adequate time.
