Contact from Recruiting Officer

The only thing I would say is they are fanatical when it comes to football ...purple and gold (school colors) or pirates (mascot) everywhere.

See ECU AROTC proved my point with their colors and mascot! Welcome to the forum ECU.

I got a message from them too. From what I've seen, they are well known in NC. But from what I have seen from what shows up on YouTube about there college, I decided it wouldn't be a very good school to go to. The first two results for ECU on YouTube were a bunch of people partying at the school. I realize that's not all they do there but it just makes the school look bad so I'm not putting at as a school of choice. There ROTC might be amazing but they don't look very good as far as how the other students spend their time
I would invite you come take a look. You can find partiers and non-partiers at every university. ECU would be happy to give you a campus tour. You can schedule it at www.ecu.edu. I can also give you a ROTC tour in conjunction with the campus tour.

As a newly Commissioned Officer who is a product of East Carolina University's Army ROTC program, I can say with much confidence that ECU has an excellent program. The training that I received from ECU was phenomenal. I have many friends who participated in ROTC programs all across the nation and many of their experiences are quite different than the quality of instruction that I received from this program. I'm on my first duty assignment now as an Active Duty Lieutenant and thanks to ECU I feel extremely prepared for any task the Army could ask of me. All in all, ECU has a top notch program and someone would be hard pressed to find a program that cares more about the quality and well being of its cadets. This is just my "two cents", of course.

Oh...and the BBQ is pretty great too!

Thanks! This looks like a great forum! I can't wait to discuss. By they way, if anyone has sons/daughters in basic training. I found a great way to write them. https://www.write2them.org/login converts emails to letters. My son in basic at Ft Sill loves getting the letters.

My son got a call by the guy who interviewed him for ROTC yesterday. He asked my son if he recieved a West Point appointment, and my son indicated that he had. It was a very nice call, and the guy was very supportive, saying that if there was anything he could do or say to sway him to go with the ROTC option, they would really love to have him.

Both my son and I feel that it is a shame to have multiple Fantastic options knowing that one or more will go unused. To turn down a full four year scholarship at what had for years been my sons top school choice says a lot about how difficult these choices are. And I know at the same time he still thinks about how nice it would be to do the ROTC option.

Then today he recieved his certificate of the ROTC scholarship award, which is very impressive, and looks much like his WP appointment certificate. Sure makes a daddy proud.

You must have a very talented son! What a great complement to know you son has great options and multiple hard choices--it says much about your family!

Thank you. He is a good boy, and we are pretty proud. My wife and I will miss him terribly. We are already dreading that part.

In terms of his application strengths, I think he is pretty well rounded. Not the top student, but solid. Not a 35 ACT, but not too far behind with a 32+. Not a recruited athlete, but captain and four year varsity soccer and three with baseball. Not overly involved with extra curriculars, but is NHS president. He didn't max CFA, but was real solid (he did great on the ROTC fitness test). He is a relatively quiet guy, but I am confident he did well in his interviews.

He is waiting to hear from USNA, but I think USMA is first choice regardless.

All these kids who are pursuing academies and/or ROTC are pretty special. I am partial to mine, but really you would be hard pressed to find one who isn't a good character kid. Lots of proud folks.
