Contact lenses, etc. during AIM

I attended AIM (a while ago - 2008) and was an AIM cadre (not so long ago - 2013), so maybe I can help shed a little bit of light. I won't go into too much detail because I truly believe that the experience should be an unspoiled as possible in terms of how the AIM program is run. But, I can definitely help with the logistical issues.

I definitely agree with the others about the size of the bag, the smaller it is, the better. If you're flying, definitely try to keep to a carry on size and avoid any kind of rolling luggage. The swimsuit is not a necessity. I wore mine at AIM because we used to do a Damage Control scenario that involved everyone getting wet but they haven't done it since I was an Aimster. That being said, the CG motto is Semper Paratus so it would behoove you to be prepare. One towel is fine, it's only a week and your daughter won't really care if it's still a little damp or not when she's using it. She will most likely be showering anywhere from 2-4 times a day due to physical activity and the lovely summer weather in New London, CT. I brought one towel and survived. Definitely bring sheets, a pillow will be provided and it doesn't matter if they are both unfitted or if one is fitted.

As for showers, yes they are in a group but there are shower stalls with curtains. That being said, you're not exactly given a long time to shower so the previous poster was right in saying that modesty will go out the window. Simply put, the time limits will remove any feelings of embarrassment or shyness as those thoughts will be the last thing on your mind.

AIM is an amazing program. I have heard rumors about the structure changing a little but it truly had a monumental impact on my decision to apply for and attend CGA. It's why I chose to be an AIM cadre three years later, b/c I wanted to help those who were still wondering if an SA was right for them make that decision. I loved that it was a challenge, both physically and mentally, and I became a better person because of it. Your child will be pushed but, if she chooses to push through, I can guarantee she will have a memorable and rewarding experience.

As for the air conditioning, the new annex broke ground in 2005. I had A/C as an Aimster in 2008 and throughout most of my time (not during swab summer) at the Academy b/c I was lucky enough to be in 2 of 3 companies that had it. When I was a 1/c, they were slowly starting to integrate A/C into the rest of Chase so I think it's safe to say that it will eventually happen. That being said, thousands of cadets and Aimsters survived without it, this year's group of swabs and Aimsters can too. Besides, all the windows in the A/C areas have to stay closed so the smell is ten times worse in those areas.

Please feel free to ask any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

This is probably the third or fourth time we heard that the structure of AIM is being changed (like physically easier.) We thought it was just a rumor but it seems to be true then? Was there a reason? We even heard that PFE may be optional during AIM, but is that true? Will it be watered down to the other SA level? Without totally giving it away, is anyone allowed to give us any insight?
