When my DS reports for I-Day, will he be allowed to bring his contact lenses or his glasses? The I-Day photos that I have seen show cadets wearing similar type glasses. Could someone please explain this process to me? Thank you very much!

Bring them with him. He will be required to wear the issued glasses during Indoc. After that he can wear what he wants.

I asked this and was told they are issued glasses in I-day. I am wondering if anyone can tell me if they have experience with CRT contacts that are just worn at night would they be allowed to wear those if not the regular contacts?

I wouldn't plan on it during basic, especially during Jack's Valley. Your best bet would probably be to let your eyes uncorrect, wear the basic glasses, and start wearing the CRT contacts after basic. I'd call the Cadet Optometry Clinic though (appointees will definitely hear from them before BCT.)

Highly unlikely they'll let you wear contacts during BCT. There's too much dust, dirt and mud. You'll be issued glasses.

Seriously - at Jack's, your hands may not even be sanitary enough to get contacts in and out of your eyes. There are safety issues to consider.

Ok everyone mentions Jack's and to be honest I am not sure what that is. We went for a visit and I must have blocked that part out. As an Mom, some things I am not sure I want to know about lol!

Oh sorry. That's Jack's Valley. It's where you get to ... ummm ... camp out during the 2nd half of BCT.

Obstacle course, assault course, rifle range, leadership course, etc. ... lots of interesting and challenging stuff goes on in Jacks.

Thank you very much. He accepted his appointment, so I guess we will wait for the Cadet Optometry Clinic for further information.
