Contacting AFROTC Detachments

I'm just wondering, if I'm interested in attending a particular college and intend to do AFROTC, should I contact the detachment beforehand?

For example, I've been looking at Embry-Riddle (Daytona), Det 157, and months ago I was in contact with them for some basic Q&A stuff, but I've always wondered if I should get in contact with them again about actually joining up.

Is there any kind of process for joining a particular detachment, or is it just show up to college, sign up for the course, and take it from there?

I believe you have until May 1st to accept your scholarship by returning a form to the AFROTC. Included with the AFROTC acceptance form is supposed to be an acceptance letter to the school you want your Air Force scholarship to be used. Have you been accepted at Embry-Riddle? If so, and that is where you want to go, then yes I would get in touch with them and let them know.

I was accepted about two months ago (wow, senior year is passing by fast). It's almost 100% that I'll be heading down there now, but I just want to see what type of scholarship I get tomorrow when I call them (I figure we'll go a new surprise each day this week - scholarship today, find out what type on Tuesday, maybe get a snow day Wednesday...)

You have more patience than me. I called immediately after noticing the status change on the scholarship site. Hopefully you'll get a Type 1 or 2 tomorrow. Can you use a Type 7 at ER?

I don't know (don't think so) - if not then it'll convert to Type 2 and the first year is on me.

Haha, I was also the guy whose friend picked up Modern Warfare 2 the day it came out for, but decided to get it from him on Wednesday because we were off from school that Tuesday. "It's just one more day." His reaction was priceless.

ERAU

Eagle1- you will like the campus. Very small and friendly. Lots to do in the area including the beach. When we visited in October I really liked the detachment. Way different than NY!

Good to hear! I never had a chance to visit the campus, so I've been relying heavily on ERAU's website, talking with the admissions rep around here, and some other things I've found here and there.

I assume they're also not under constant threat of a blizzard down there too?

Blizzards no but hurricanes, yes! I live close to Daytona so if you have any specific questions let me know. I also have been accepted to study aerospace engineering but without scholarship dont know if we can afford it. Next to AFA it is one of my top choices.
