I was wondering if USNA, USMA, and USAFA held contemporary church services? The Protestant service I went to at NASS was very formal (with hymns etc.) and unlike the church I go to at home.

You will find all flavors of religious services at all the service academies. They may not be held in the main chapel, but you will find them!

The one you attended is the standard Protestant service USNA has every Sunday. They do have some other options... not sure if you will find a full contemporary non-denominational service at USNA on Sunday morning but might on a Sunday evening or during the week. At USNA you can leave the yard for services after Plebe Summer. A lot of the local churches will even have vans to help pick up Mids or if upperclass attend help out with rides.

Sun 2000 is contemporary. I’ve been told it’s run by Chaplain Uyboco (don’t even think I spelled that right, but he’s a great guy)

Chaps Uyboco is great! There is a Sunday PM contemporary service. There is also a contemporary service they can attend during Plebe Summer. We. Attended during PPW and was great to see the mids worshiping (and a few catching some ZZZs). In terms of worship, there is something for everyone.

I help to lead worship on Sunday nights alongside Chaplain Uyboco. I'm also a part of Cru. Feel free to reach out with any questions about Christian life at Navy; I'm happy to help! (Class of '22)
