Contracted Cadet Question.

continued prayers and well wishes. I, for one, would like to hear an update if you would care to share.

ODU,

You have contacted the cadre, and they really are the best to go to in this case, because they know what needs to be done.

Your situation is unique, and with a few exceptions, nobody here can give you clear cut advice. We can give you suggestions, support, and maybe some direction.

Going to them was smart. The cadre has yrs of experience as AD members. They will support you and guide you because they know the regs. I am betting your CoC is an O5 at least, more likely an O6. They understand that shooting from the hip is probably not ideal. That is why I said in an earlier post

My bet would be they will say wait until you have the results especially since you are not at school right now

It is going to be fine. You probably earned more respect for being proactive instead of waiting.

As far as deleting the thread. I think the horse is out of the barn. I have seen posts deleted for not following rules set forth. I have seen locked, and I have seen moved. However, I have never seen an entire thread deleted.

It wouldn't shock me if they did, but remember the world wide web lives for forever.

I would hope you realize that your posts are also great for other cadets/candidates. Let's be honest. Had there been a thread here from another cadet, would it have calmed your nerves? Given you direction regarding what action to take?

FB is more of an issue than this site. I am too flipping lazy to figure out who you are on this site. We were just trying to inform you that sites like this are not as anonymous as you may think.

Ten will get you twenty. 10 clicks on a mouse, and you will know exactly who I am. My moniker in no way has a tie to my name, my job, my life.

Every hope, thought and best wish is with you from me hoping that all is well.

As long as you have been completely honest with the cadre regarding what you have had done and what the findings are to date then you have done all you need.

Don't hide anything and don't gloss over what you know to date. From your previous posts you stated that the moles were found to be a Melanoma, you need to make sure you told that to the cadre, not just that you had a mole removed.

The rest of the information will become part of your medical records.

I agree with a previous poster when they said to keep a plan B on the back burner. Look through the Dodmerb Medical site, there are specific sections that deal with skin cancers.

I agree that you should disclose the condition and be prepared to document the elimination of the melanoma. What you don't want to have happen is a more serious recurrence, which could raise the question: did you fail to disclose an existing condition?

According to the Army Medical Standards for enlistment and induction, which I assume apply to ROTC cadets (rather than retention standards), "skin cancer (other than malignant melanoma) removed with no residual, is not disqualifying."

Best wishes for your continued success in ROTC!

Thanks for all of the concern on the matter, it has now been taken care of with Cadre, and I will be requesting this thread be deleted for privacy reasons as I have not been diagnosed with any stage of melanoma as of now.

You do not have to worry about this thread. Your medical eligibility is determined by the medical records of your doctors as read by the military's qualifications board. Nothing you've said here is considered medically relevant. You are not hiding the situation (which would actually not be a medical but honor situation had it occurred).

Your priorities should be:

1) Making sure you follow up on your doctor's orders if any additional tests or exams are required. Your health is paramount here.

2) Providing all relevant records as requested by the Army's medical boards and if requested being examined by one of their doctors.

3) Keeping your focus on your studies come next fall. This probably will take a little while to sort out. Don't let it be a distraction. You will need your studies to go well regardless of the outcome of any potential medical inquiry. Your education will provide for your career even after your time in the military is done.

Best wishes to you in keeping strong.

Anyone interested in how this went.

I got my biopsy back, I officially have no signs of Melanoma in my Lymph nodes, I have spoken with my Cadre and I have to go in front of a medical board with my results, they are confident that it will go good.

In 3 weeks I can start Pting again, time to get ready for MSIII year.

Thanks everyone. :thumb:

Glad to hear that things are moving along so well and quickly. Hopefully, that medical review board will be completed quickly so you can focus on your big year!

Congrats!

Then I am officially back to square 1, what was the point of a History, Military Science degree with no ROTC? Oh wait...There is no point.

Maybe I am just being negative, who know's,

All my favorite posters missed this part of your comments. I'm sure this was said in jest, but it really stuck out to me as I was watching 60 minutes tonight. Glad to hear health issues might be resolved, now time to remember why you chose your major. Pick up a book by David McCullough, or hopefully I can link this right.
