Corona Virus on or before I-day = Medically DQ'd

CAPT MJ is spot on! The USNA Supt video stands right now, as does the Dean's letter. If that scenario changes, they will let everyone know.

I know many are tense and want answers. Remember this is the military... as much as things are black and white in it, there is a lot of gray too. Everyone wants answers. They will be given when they have a clear answer to give. The Supt has made it clear what his priorities are and his staff is working on a 100 different what if scenarios for each priority. Guess what? This is exactly what the military is like! A fellow grad and I were talking yesterday that we feel like we are deployment. It feels a lot like one... word constantly changing, rumors, boredom, working with few facts and having to make a best guess on many things, monotony and many more. As an officer you will have to pass word, end rumors and plan with little facts for so many courses of action you didn’t know they existed. You weigh
risks with the priorities and pick the best one. Welcome to planning in the military. When USNA has an answer to when the Brigade will return, when will they graduate, summer training, I Day, etc will all be sent. I know you are used to if I do X then Y will happen, I follow this flow and then the next step happens, etc... that isn’t how the military works operates. You have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Remember... as an officer... when the world is chaotic, foggy and nuts... you have to be the the calm.

I sent this extract in a SPOT REPORT to dozens of folks yesterday at all the Academies and ROTC programs

Re: COVID-19 = DODMERB Operational Spot Report as of 22 Mar 1545 hrs MDT,

a. VDAM Buck, Supt of USNA hit a Grand Slam with his Comms!: Caution-https://www.usna.edu/PAO/Superintendent/COVID-19-Message.php < Caution-https://www.usna.edu/PAO/Superintendent/COVID-19-Message.php > . A clear, concise, way ahead for all, in a Lee Iaccoca manner.

USNA Candidate Information/Application Status
MEDICAL STATUS
If any illness, surgery, or injury has occurred since the time of your initial DODMERB medical examination, send details and substantiating doctor's statement to nomapps@usna.edu.
For information regarding your medical exam or status please visit the DODMERB website.

The DoDMERB status states to notify DoDMERB, as we are the office of record and we notify USNA.
Moral of the story, you know you're covered if you send to both:)

Thank you to all feedback from my initial post. I did not reply to anyone directly on this forum as I felt it was not the appropriate until I followed up with our blue and gold officer directly and then with admissions too. They provided us the same information from the superintendent and then we also received the email communication as stated above. Thank you all again.

It is very clear! "There are no plans to deny admissions to individuals who are diagnosed with COVID-19 AND Recover."

If individuals have a clear symptom of COVID-19, it is strongly recommended to take an exam and confirm the result rather than holding and making the condition worse before I-Day. If the condition gets worse, it might be permanent damage to the respiratory system that would remove the future opportunity such as reapplication to the Class of 2025. However, do not go to a hospital for a minor symptom since it would increase a chance to be infected during an exam.

Another problem is that the local hospital doesn't allow an exam unless the health condition is extremely serious.

Stay safe and healthy! See you all on I-Day!

For a reference, I made a flowchart associated with COVID-19. Thanks to all leaders for your great input!

This is on the USNA website:
Office of Admissions

(Updated 3/24/20) The U.S. Naval Academy Office of Admissions continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely. Based on what is currently known, the vast majority of young people recover without medical issues. In this context, there are no plans to deny admission to individuals who are diagnosed with COVID-19 and recover. If your healthcare provider recommends being tested, we strongly encourage you to follow their advice, without worrying that your testing will impact your ability to accession as a Midshipman.

The following is the email that was sent out by USNA:

Please see the below message from the United States Naval Academy, Dean of Admissions, Dean Latta:

Hi! This was sent in an email to NASS applicants as well as posted on their website, it reads as follows

"(Updated 3/24/20) The U.S. Naval Academy Office of Admissions continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely. Hope this helps

DS just got an e-mail from his B&G officer stating the Naval Academy has stated any Appointee who acquires the Coronavirus before I-day will be medically DQ'd and appointment taken away, no exceptions. He also said they were working for a plan to test Midshipmen on I-day and potentially DQ any they feel are ill with Coronavirus like symptoms. Has anyone else heard this??

I was shocked, but that is the way of the world these days...we are all in UNCHARTED WATERS for sure.
The March 26 edition of WaveTops from USNA disputes that.
