Does the ROTC scholarship pay for Corps of Cadets uniforms?
I get a $1000 per semester uniform stipend from the Army, however my tuition pays for my uniforms. I go to The Citadel.
Interesting...I guess I'll consult Norwich bc the answer isnt clear cut.
What's your experience like in the Corps of Cadets?
fezlopez at Norwich you pay a uniform fee that is divided between your first 4 semesters. It amounts to $4000+ (not sure what it is this year), but roughly $1000 /semester for 4 semesters. You will get an ROTC uniform stipend, which definitely does not cover the whole thing, but sure will help you with boots and shoes.
EDIT: Just asked my son about the uniform allowance and he said it was $800 with tax taken out (I didn't think they did that...), but he has no idea if he gets that once a year or once a semester.
At my DS's school his Corp uniforms are included/added in the tuition cost. The cost is more Freshman year and is less in the years to follow. Now how that is paid depends... scholarships of some sort, make up the difference out of pocket. It depends on the terms and financial assistance you DS has set up or qualifies for.
At DS's SMC, you pay a mandatory uniform fee the first year of about $1500 to the university store's military department, but you can buy many of the uniform pieces on Army posts. This is what my son did -- paid the mandatory fee, then bought about 2/3rds of his uniforms on base. Thus, about $900 of the uniform fee was "on account" at the bookstore, which he used to buy books (and probably a bunch of military gear for his company courtesy of me) for the first 3 semesters or so. ACUs are issued though. You don't buy those. They also issue Army combat boots but many cadets purchase a backup pair (within regs) to wear to class or for running or whatever.
If you don't mind me asking, which SMC does your DS attend?
Univ of North Georgia
Thanks for your reply. I was hoping you were going to say VT, where DS just accepted.
That's where I'll be headed in August!
