Countdown

Yes, I do get credit for my Community College classes, and the will transfer to just about any college. The Academy requires 132 credits for your 4 years, so you can't really transfer units to the Academy, but I believe that you can test out so that you can take different classes in their place.

Good Luck

Brian Andre

I would check on that. As I said DS took 18 college credits outside of his hs classes on top of his APs. UNCCH would take them since they were from a college in NC. UMDCP, UVA, NYU STERNS, UMFL, and Notre Dame would not. The APs were accepted by all.

It is very important to have that back up plan in place not only for in case no big packet shows up via the truck, but also if you get injured and have to go to another college

Forgot to say, as far as I know you can't transfer any credits in at all, and if you have a back up plan of ROTC, you will have core reqs for ROTC and the earliest you can grad is your Fall of your sr yr.

It is important to keep all of the info out there since some will be apptd, some will not, some will opt ROTC over SA and some will for whatever reason not ba able to attend even though they are appt (typically medical turnback) A lot can and will happen, and there will be days of joy and days of OMG, the more knowledge you have the better you will feel.

There are "SOME" classes that you can test out of; but that simply leaves spaces to take other classes. Convenient if you'd like to have a specific minor and need to take particular classes. Transferring credits is definitely a no go. You can walk in with a Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Fission, and you're still going to take the entire course load at the academy.

Now; as far as "Which" classes you can test out of, maybe hornet or one of the others can remember. I can't remember which subjects you can or can't.

Classes that can be validated by AP and/or testing (now)
Biology 215
Chemistry 100
Calculus 1 and 2
English 111
Languages in general with validation testing
Computer Science 110 and 210
Physics 1 and 2

My plan B is ROTC at the Colorado School of Mines. I have already checked and most, if not all, of my classes from my Community College will transfer right in. I have already verified this with their admissions department. My Calc teacher last year was a math teacher at the academy, Shirley Hamilton, these are not easy classes. She teaches them just like she would at the academy.

Good Luck

if you say so.

Haha, nice countdown. But as it's been stated: we can all HOPE that Beast will look like that!

you forgot about modern world history (a c4c class). i somehow managed to validate that class with a 4 on the AP world history exam.

Coming from one who couldn't wait to come here, honestly my biggest advice is don't count down. Last year I was in your shoes and thought that it was stupid NOT to countdown. Believe me, you'll miss your days at home-your days of family and cell phones and TV and friends and movies or just laying around. Enjoy life at home as much as you can. Time really flies by. Make the most of it.

Hahaha...i find it funny....because thats the same exact advice we disregarded last year and kept up the Hoorah spirit of can't wait for the Academy. And its probably going to be the same exact advice the next year will ALSO disregard lol....ironic in a way hahah

Yeah that's what I was trying to get at. Honestly, if you're applying and you listen to only one bit of advice from me or other C4C's, enjoy life at home. Don't be stupid about it, but have fun. Things will be a lot different in 10 months

I value your advice, but I really do hope things are very different in 10 months. I know I will have some bad days and some really bad days, but that does not dull my passion to go to the Academy.

I was one of the few on here that did not countdown. I knew it would suck here, I knew I would miss home, and I knew that it would be challenging. I was right, but I was mature enough to realize that it is going to suck for 10 months, then it will be almost back to normal and be well worth the struggle.

I cannot stress this enough, enjoy every part of being home. Hangout with your friends and family, and do as much fun stuff as you possibly can. The 4 weeks of summer I had before BCT were the some of the best 4 weeks of my life. Why? I made them the best 4 weeks of my life. I did what I wanted to do with who I wanted to do it with. I made a "bucket list" and knocked out nearly everything on that list before I left. Do I miss home? Yes. Would I rather be back on the beach with all of my friends still enjoying summer? Yes. But I made a decision, a tough "man-sized" decision and I am sticking with it.

The point of all of this is get your applications in. Study hard your Senior year. But most of all enjoy life. Don't countdown to coming here. There are much better things you can do.

Hope this helps.

Hey man, I havent had a really bad day yet. I had one bad day but that only lasted for like 4 hours. Def have fun before you come, my last day at home was the best day of my life to date, but its not terrible here.

I completely agree with Btown.... some of the best advice I can think of for an applicant.

Seriously, enjoy your time at home now. I was super-pumped too, but once you get here, you realize that you should've valued your time at home more. Make the best of your senior year, spend time with family. High school may seem boring and stupid now, but looking back, I wish I hadn't had that attitude, because high school was a blast.

My biggest regret was not spending more time with friends and family. I spent more time on this site than I should have. I prepared physically, but not as much as I should have. But I don't regret that. I'm doing fine now. You won't ever get this time you have right now back. You'll see your family once every few months for leave, etc. You probably won't see your good friends from high school together again.

Honestly, I know how excited you are. Being a Basic sucks, but it will be better if you leave knowing you had the best time you could during your senior year. It goes by way too fast.

Alright, off my soapbox. Good luck with the application, and I can't wait to see 2014 here.

I appreciate all of your advice and I will enjoy my senior year as much as possible. I am not afraid of hard work though and I shouldn't be. I am as excited as ever to go to the academy (if I get an appointment) and I think that is fine. Life goes crazy fast and I want to enjoy it, both at home and the academy. Hard work never hurt anyone and I it definitely won't hurt me, I am willing to bust my ass. Not to be rude or anything (I really respect you guys), but you are kind of sounding like a bunch of bums (I know that isn't true and I shouldn't assume that). Good luck on all your classes and everything guys. Hope to see you soon.

Very true,

I completely agree with you there. I am very ignorant about the Academy, but you guys just seem down and discouraged. If I am correct, all of your dreams are coming true. You know, I am really jealous of you guys, because 1. You never had to see the rejection letter that I might and 2. You are attending one of the best colleges and service academies in the world. Next summer, I would rather have hell at the Academy than heaven at home. Just my opinion, feel free to set me straight. Good luck to you all.

Later,

Brian Andre

haha i am everything but down and discouraged! I mean sure there are alot of challenges here that can be somewhat depressing, but i dont let it get me down....i always stay upbeat and put a smile on (which gets me in trouble ALL the time! lol)
