A lot of opportunities like Boy's State and Semper Fidelis All American program are being cancelled. Plus reduced opportunities for students to take the ACT and SAT...wondering how that will affect admissions?

I think admissions will be evaluating all that. If you were accepted into a program ensure to put it on your app. I will be curious if the college boards add some extra test dates coming up. Bottom line is everyone is in the same situation and the key is to seize every opportunity you can when taking the tests. Really evaluate how you did an each section and use a tutor if possible, lots of free or paid programs that help with these tests and try both.

I couldn't agree more with NavyHoops.

I have a USMA Plebe DS finishing his 2nd semester on a laptop in our home, while my next DS is striving for an SA appointment for the Class of 2025. They recently cancelled his March SAT, April ACT, Varsity Track & Field, Robotics Club, Sea Cadets, and now Boys State. POOF......all gone! He's afraid they'll cancel NASS & SLE as well, and he may not get to take his SAT/ACT until August-ish at the earliest.

But, here's the good news (I'm using that term ridiculously loosely), everyone's standardized tests, extra-curricular activities (sports & clubs) are cancelled pending end of pandemic. Nobody is earning Whole Person Multiple (WPM) or Whole Candidate Score (WCS) points at this time. Just like NavyHoops wrote "...everyone is in the same situation...".

However, many/most/possibly all candidates will be tempted to view this situation as an opportunity to relax their efforts. After all, if nobody's earning any points right now, where's the pressure? Right?

Well, to once again quote NavyHoops "...the key is to seize every opportunity you can...". There are three generic, but crucially important opportunities that apply to everyone:

1) Keep your grades up (I know, it's kind of obvious), but you do still have a GPA grinding it's way forward, so nurture it! Your grades are worth points. Remember: Never leave points on the table!

2) Remember these three letters C-F-A! One little ray of sunlight a SA candidate can find in this horrifying situation is all the extra, distraction free time you have to pound yourself into shape so that you can blow your CFA score so sky high that your proctor will want to doodle mushroom clouds on your score sheet! Contrary to what some well-meaning folks have mistakenly posted elsewhere, the CFA is not only a Pass/Fail test. There are WPM/WCS points associated with your CFA score. The better you do, the higher you score. The higher you score, the more WPM/WCS points you get. What better way to demonstrate your commitment to the SA's than to show them that you weren't spending your pandemic sabbatical burning out your X-Box. Remember: Never leave points on the table!

3) Even though you may have to wait 4-5 months to take your next SAT/ACT, now is the time to push yourself to new limits. If an academically competitive candidate were to dedicate 1-2 hours a day, 4-6 days a week, utilizing all of the innumerable & magnificent resources freely available online, that candidate could be smashing 1500+ SAT & 34+ ACT scores into the stratosphere on their timed practice tests by the time August shows it's face. I believe that this is the single best way to take advantage of a bad situation. According to the 2015 Rand Report on USMA Admissions, academics represented 60% of the Whole Candidate Score (WCS), and Standardized Tests (SAT & ACT) played a bigger role than GPA in academic scoring simply because the SAT & ACT are standardized for everybody. The CFA is the only other scored activity that is truly standardized for everyone. Remember: Never leave points on the table!

Remember: NEVER LEAVE POINTS ON THE TABLE!!! Remember this!.......and carpe diem...and all that other stuff.
