Covid-19, USAFA tours delayed

Hello all,

I recently received an email from USAFA saying that they are "beginning an orderly closure of USAFA to all visitors." This is a bummer as I had received my appointment to USAFA a few weeks back, and I was going to visit the academy in mid-April. Assuming that the academy is still closed to visitors, do you think the admissions team will extend the date of accepting the appointment? Currently, the date is May 1st.

I've received AFROTC & NROTC scholarships to the University of Notre Dame, and my final decision is between these two schools. The tour of USAFA would have been very influential in helping me make this difficult decision. I was just wondering if anyone is going through the same dilemma or knew any information regarding campus availability for tours / a push back of the acceptance date to accommodate for visits.

Thanks!

As of now, the tours they had planned on April 3rd, 6th, and 10th are not cancelled. I called admissions and they said to check this website for any official cancellations. https://www.usafa.edu/news/coronavirus/
Also, if you have a DoD identification card you’re are still allowed on campus.

You may want to clarify where even DoD ID holders can go...the closed cadet "campus" area is only open to cadets and permanent party USAFA personnel; this is how it has been for years. a DoD ID will still get you on base only and non-gated areas.

May 1 is a hard date set by all colleges across the country. They have a waitlist for those who don't accept their appointments. Notre Dame and USAFA are completely different in college experiences; understand those differences from the virtual videos and one can make their decision. Your delay to not accept your appointment at this time on the calendar may be your gut telling you it is not the right fit college for you. Air Force and Navy are two very different service organizations which is an even bigger decision for you to make in regards to scholarship acceptance.

Sorry, the admissions lady didn’t clarify and I wasn’t aware!

No apology needed and I did not mean to come off as harsh. If I did, I apologize. Many times the folks at USAFA and other military installations "assume" the people they are talking to understand more about normal military protocols when it comes to base access.

No, you’re fine! I just didn’t want to be giving information that can be misinterpreted

"Admissions events, to include Discover USAFA, Explore USAFA and other Admissions Tours are suspended until further notice. In-person USAFA Appointee Tours scheduled for April 3, 6, and 10 are cancelled. Appointee Webinars will continue, with additional sessions added to answer any questions." - from the website

Dang, so it is true. Really unfortunate but I understand the importance of safety

Due to the corona virus, USAFA began releasing all cadets except firsties today. The cadets are being release to go home and possibly complete classes online. Firsties will be given solo rooms that have been vacated by the other cadets and complete their classes online so they may be able to graduate. I believe all tours and visitors will not be allowed on base for the foreseeable future. Hopefully this will not extend into June.
