I am on schedule to get the Moderna covid vaccine. Before I get it, I would like to make sure it won’t be any issue down the road. Does usafa, or any of the academies for that matter, require a specific type of vaccine? I’m not sure what the plan is to vaccinate cadets or if there is one, but I wonder if they would prefer me to wait and get vaccinated at the academy. Thank you for any help.

I also am unsure of to whom I can direct these types of questions. If any names or contacts can be provided that would be great. I have received an offer of appointment, but I have not yet accepted so I do not have my packet. I also had another question on whether there were any travel restrictions prior to I-Day. My family is planning a trip to Puerto Rico. Thank you.

I believe they can't require the vaccine without FDA approval. "Vaccines approved for emergency use are offered on a voluntary basis." from the army public health center as of March 3rd, 2021.

DoDMERB is your best bet for these kinds of questions.

From what I have read, USAFA is giving vaccines in limited quantities to cadets at this time. Mostly to those who are working Q&I or C1C's about to commission. I think over the next couple of months it will be available to anyone who wants it. Lt. General Clark has said it will not be required until the FDA approves it for general use. After is it approved it is very likely the vaccine will be required. I don't think Pfizer, Modena, or J&J matter as they are all approved for emergency use.

Just make sure you have documentation of your vaccine. You will have an immunization form you will have to submit to USAFA as part of the "onboarding" and I would think you should be able to submit it there. If not bring it with you on I Day along with your other documents.

Also from Mr. Mullen on the DODMERB forum:

REAL ANSWER FOR ANY ACADEMY OR ROTC APPLICANTS:

If the opportunity exits and you choose to be vaccinated, go for it.
No, DoDMERB does not need to be notified :wiggle:

I was told by another SA (not USAFA) to get it if I can. I was told it does affect DoDMERB. I'm not 18 until May. Hoping for the one shot stop. Lol.
