Is the vaccine required for admission into the class of 2027? If anybody has a link to factual information about this it would be appreciated. The admissions page says it's required and references DoD policy, but DoD has said this...

I don't know about USMMA but USCGA still requires the Covid vaccine but not the booster , or a negative covid test within 72 hours to visit the campus

I can't comment on KP policy, but plenty of players that are EMBARC approved to take cadets still have vaccine mandates, especially those who are trading foreign. I'd plan on getting the vaccine as part of attending KP.

The portal for the USAFA says the COVID vaccine is no longer required. Wondering if the other service academies will follow suit soon?

Current Guidelines on COVID-19

  • For Daily & Overnight Tours: All visitors must submit the DD 3150.
  • Mask wearing is no longer required in non-medical facilities.
  • COVID vaccine is not a requirement.
Candidates are highly encouraged to be fully vaccinated prior to visiting West Point.

Looks like West Point has changed their policy as well....

Without being political on the vaccine, USNA is currently experiencing a minor COVID outbreak. It was told to us that if numbers don't go down, we might have to mask up again :(.

If you are asking this question, ask yourself if you want to go there. You will need to take vaccines - lot of them. If you are uncomfortable with that, military / merchant marine life is not for you.
I think that's over simplifying it a bit. There's a difference between a yellow fever vaccine (A safe and effective yellow fever vaccine has been available for more than 80 years) and an experimental vaccine against Covid, which has proven to pose minimal risk to healthy people in the age bracket of those in question.

Just saw this on USAFA candidate site-

The Department of Defense has rescinded the COVID vaccination requirement for accession into the military services. The United States Air Force Academy no longer requires the COVID vaccination.

But you will continue to face these requirements later in your life: many foreign countries will require vaccines for entry, for example, and other vaccines will be developed and required. As mentioned above, if this is important to you consider how often you want to have to fight this same battle.

My 45+ year old shot card is darn near full (including Covid but no boosters). Yellow Fever is a bit requirement for most west African nations.

Did you ever get "factual information"? Please do share if you stubble on anything. Thanks.

I was onsite at KP this past weekend and was told that while DOD has dropped the requirement USMMA has not yet taken that step. Reason being... The majority of the shipping companies which are involved in sea year activities still require the vaccine and USMMA needs to align with shipping companies.

Interesting ... I wonder how many other company policies USMMA takes the time to ensure they "align" with. What if two companies have different policies? How do they choose which to "align" with? ... asking for a friend.

I would imagine company policy dictates in most cases while on a ship (something as simple as facial hair for men, I see many with a beard during sea year). Seems like vaccination policy is the price of admission. My question when I was there was specific to vaccines as it pertains to admission and that's the answer I got. So beyond that I can't give any factual information.

My mid had to get a booster if he were to get a NOAA ship for sea year. Lots of different situations and companies’ rules beyond our military.

Err on the side of caution, get the shot if going to USMMA otherwise you run the chance of having someone reject the candidate.
