As I am going to be going into the doctor's here next week to go get my immunizations for USAFA, do you guys think it would be in my best interest to go get the COVID vaccine? Do you guys think it will be required later on anyways, and it would be best for me to get it now? Thanks

There are many threads discussing this topic and the current policy. Suggest searching “COVID” and you will probably find answers to your questions.

Focus on your required ones first, especially anything that requires a second spaced shot. Ask your provider about the time guidelines for spacing the COVID sequence vax from other inoculations; I believe there are some. The Pfizer and Moderna require 3 or 4 weeks apart. This will take some calendaring. Do it if you can, but do the homework first.

I'm not sure if it'll be required later on but, as seen in the email USAFA sent out, "we encourage all cadets and prospective cadets to get the vaccine as soon as they are able to under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tiered approach". It wouldn't hurt getting the vaccine because the more cadets who are vaccinated, the quicker things can get back to normal.

Definitely will do my homework and get the required ones out of the way!

Get the required ones first as others have said. There needs to be 2 weeks in between required vaccines and the first shot of Covid vaccine if you decide to get it. And then there's the 3-4 weeks after the initial shot that others have mentioned.

I waited 2.5 weeks after the required shot and decided to get the Covid vaccine. I get my second shot in less than 2 weeks. I hope it helps to keep me out of Q&I. I am not 18 yet (in a week) so I had to get Pfizer.

What's Q&I?

This interpretation is probably a more accurate representation of cadet sentiment towards being stuck in their rooms.
Not their own rooms, though. To add insult to injury, they have to move to a completely new room in the Q&I section. Not fun.

APPROVED: USAFA Appointee Statement:

Academy leadership remains focused on commissioning the Class of 2021, bringing in the class of 2025, and maintaining academic and training progress for the lower classes, while keeping the health and safety of the Cadet Wing, USAFA staff and faculty, and the Academy community our number one priority. USAFA continues to fight COVID-19 while executing our mission to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become leaders of character, motivated to lead the Air and Space Forces in service to our nation. While we encourage all cadets and prospective cadets to get the vaccine as soon as they are able to under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tiered approach, it remains entirely optional and has absolutely no impact on your appointment status. Appointees can receive, prior to arrival, any of the vaccines currently monitored and approved by the CDC and FDA (EUA) – Pfizer or Moderna. If you begin and are unable to complete the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series before arrival to USAFA, you may be given the opportunity to restart the vaccination process depending on the availability of your vaccine series. If you receive a COVID-19 vaccination prior to I-Day, please provide documentation, either in advance with other medical documents forwarded electronically or upon arrival on I-Day so the USAFA Medical Team can ensure appropriate annotation in the medical record. Again, opting to get vaccinated for COVID-19 is a personal decision and your vaccination status has no bearing on your appointment status. USAFA will continue to follow CDC and DoD guidance regarding COVID-19 prevention and vaccination efforts. We look forward to seeing you arrive healthy on I-Day.

Now that JanJ is approved again, can't they get that? One and done helps our timing.

The CDC has changed the guidance for the waiting period for administration between different vaccines.
"COVID-19 vaccines and other vaccines may now be administered without regard to timing. This includes simultaneous administration of COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines on the same day, as well as coadministration within 14 days."

Coadministration with other vaccines
