Covid Vaccines for cadets?

My son just received word yesterday he is scheduled to get the Pfizer tomorrow. He will be working basic and he said all cadets working basic will be receiving them.

Does anyone have any idea if USAFA has started rolling out vaccines for cadets? I am apart of the incoming class of 2025 and was wondering if they have a plan to vaccinate.
I'm a class of '21 Preppie parent and we were told any cadets not vaccinated before I-Day will receive the vaccination on I-Day.

99.7% of people that get the virus have a complete recovery. If everyone in the world gets the shot how do we tell if it’s really working? It goes up to 99.8% of people survive. Give me a break....

The difference between the fictional Contraceptive Vaccine and the COVID vaccine's are significant. The first is that COVID can result in death or severe medical problems for the rest of your life. Secondly, while the vaccine will not protect you 100%, it has been shown to significantly reduce the symptoms and effects of contracting the disease. So in effect, you may still have a chance of getting COVID, but if you do, it will likely be a far less severe case. To my knowledge, pregnancy is binary so there is no comparison. Thirdly, getting the vaccine can help prevent you from spreading the disease to someone else. Pregnancy is not contagious.

If you don't believe in vaccines, that is your call, but do not spread false statistics.

First off, I absolutely believe in vaccines. I also believe our children receive too many vaccines in a short period of time at birth through preschool. I don’t believe a covid vaccine should be mandatory when the deaths are .03 percent of people who contact it. It is not even close to a top 5 death rate on individuals. The media has caused this disaster of concern. It fits their prerogative and is a scare tactic to society. I acknowledge people have died from it although mostly elderly and people with underlying health concerns. I have also had someone close die from it but they also had ”STAGE 4 CANCER” but that wasn’t the cause of death, goes to help support their numbers. Also, mandating cadets receive a vaccine that is not even FDA approved is ridiculous. There are no long term studies to prove there aren’t going to be long term affects from receiving it. Ill throw a hypothetical at you. What if in 2 years they say no one that received a COVID vaccine will be allowed to be a pilot because the significant signs of seizures associated with the vaccine? Your son or daughters dreams just fell apart because they were mandated to take it before it was even FDA approved. Would you change your tune then ? Also, the meme was a joke but has validity to the shot, mask etc.

Again, please do not use false statistics. Johns Hopkins reports the mortality rate per case at 1.8% in the US not 0.03%. This does not describe the number of people who have life long health issues now like decreased lung capacity or loss of smell as a result of their illness. The statistic also does not address the ability to infect others.

As far as your hypothetical, I would be disappointed if my son could not pursue his dream for any reason. But, I can imagine several things that are more likely to derail his dreams than established vaccine research being used for a vaccine. All I can do is make the best decision with the available data today. I have made plenty of decisions in life that ended up being sub-optimal, but have no regrets because given the available information, I made the right call at the time. Interesting how you compare a known virus with known complications to an unsupported claim about seizures and complain that the media is using scare tactics at the same time.

Blaming the media for COVID is weak and does not merit a response. I have no idea why mask wearing was turned into a political statement when it is a a simple, cheap and effective method for reducing spread. Its a minor irritant and most frustrating when you get to the front door of the supermarket and realize you left it in the car. Not a grounds for me to whine about keeping myself and those around me a little safer. I have no doubt that all leaders made some bad decisions over the past year regarding COVID from both Presidents to Governors to the staff at USAFA. I also know a lot people were less cooperative than they could have been during this time. If we are fortunate, our people and institutions will have learned and we will respond better next time.

Check your rules if flying to Colorado. We are trying to work in the vaccine between other shots for titers that came back "not immune" :-( and the polio vaccine - LOTS of shots! Just think it will make flying to CO much easier as I believe (right now) the airline requires we have either a negative test 3 days before the flight or the shot record. As one who has erroneously tested positive in the past, that's not a test result I want to have to deal with the day before we are supposed to fly out.

My guys are flying American tomorrow to CO. Based on their app, no test necessary or Q at this time. My son is getting mandatory shots and titers next week.

For BCT, If we get the COVID vaccine, should we bring the CDC card? I don’t know if it will help in any way, such as if they’ll still make you quarantine. Just want to try my hardest to not miss any trainings or mandatory stuff and then fall behind.

I had just assumed that since my son had all the shots as a kid that he was immune -- apparently not and so then I assumed it was a single booster, but noooooooo! When they say "plan accordingly" to get all the shots done take it seriously as re-shots may require 2 doses with a 4 week wait in between. UGH! We'll get there in plenty of time, but my own OCD just wanted him to be able to check off one more box in the kit! LOL

I am surprised the immunity didn’t show up. We are also moving as fast as we can. Did you need to track down another prescription for additional shots (like USAFA gave for the polio)? Or is the doctor fine with administering the shots since immunity didn’t show up? That does suck. Can I ask which shots he has to get again from the negative titers?

@Goldfish , update: Rescheduled to 04/05 at 5pm

DD wanted to if she now qualifies for the free Krispie Kreme donut per day until 12/31/2021. YES! If and when she can get off base. Unfortunately, the one being built now in COS is out of the way and not near anything she would go to, but at home it's right on my path from swim practice back to the office, a great reason to stop there um, almost every day.
