Covid Vaccines for cadets?

Just a gentle reminder, it's helpful to keep in mind that DS will eventually be apart of the military. Now is the time to start adjusting what you would be open to or not, as I'm guessing sooner than later the vaccine will be a military requirement. Different branches are already making "incentives" for those that voluntarily receive the vaccine. While parents will always be able to give advice and have conversations, DS will become an adult member of the military and parent's will have less of an impact on decision-making.
Too true! DH had to get the anthrax series while a reservist. After the 3rd vaccine his upper arm swelled to twice the size with a golf ball lump to boot and we had to fight to get him exempt from future shots (a series of 5) because the reaciton would only get progressively worse. It took forever to get the exemption...

Oh, I know. Really, I do. I also know we (all citizens) don't have a say in what vaccine we get. Again, just personal opinion, if he (or I) is/am going to get a nonFDA approved vaccine, I would at least like it to be the traditional type of vaccine as opposed to mRNA. J&J can't even hit production numbers, so this is moot anyway. But, yes, I know I will not have say in much (anything) soon.

My son (18), a USCGA appointee, has already gotten his 1st Moderna shot and is counting down to #2. His father has gotten his first Moderna shot as well, and Mom, sister (21) and brother (20) have all gotten their first Pfizer shots. We’re all thrilled to be getting vaccinated. I’m happy it’ll be done before he reports in case of side effects which are, in my opinion, best dealt with at home if you have the choice. Although sore arms are the biggest complaint any of us has had so far.

I think it is publicly available, you can listen to the Commandant's call where she does give an update,, including Covid vaccine for the Cadet Wing, as well as current posture on BCT for 2025.

Scroll down - Maj. Gen. Michele Edmonson Senior Leader Call on March 29, 2021

I think you can access this without a login; I logged out of Webguy (shocker!) to see if it will work for the general public.

That was very informative! Thank you!

My Mid's NROTC battalion will begin to receive them this weekend. They've set up times for each Midshipman. They are pushing to have 2 shots before May so they are prepared for summer training assignments.

Do vaccinated cadets/basics still have to get tested and/or contact traced if exposed to the virus?
My understanding is yes. Not everyone will arrive to I-day vaccinated so everyone will be tested, placed in ROM, and tested again a few days later. Anything can change between now and I-day.

It may be mandatory sooner than later...

They cannot as it's under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). It's still an experimental vaccine. It's optional by US law until FDA approves it.
