My son is a plebe-to-be. His older brother commissioned from USNA in 2019, which means he was a plebe in 2015. At that time, I recall we had to get something from our local police stating that he did not have a criminal record. Is that still part of the process? If so, is it a form that the police department fills out? I would like to get a head start on it b/c our son is a college reapplicant, 2000 miles away, and won't be done until mid-May. Our "local" police department is LAPD and I recall that last time it took months to get anyone to provide the information.

When my son received a response to the initial email he sent to accept his nomination, forms and instructions were sent to him. I hope this helps!

yes he should have received an email with the police report sheet - I can tell you my kid who got her appt in January still does not have this box checked - not an easy task at all - very difficult when you are at school Monday - Friday from early morning till after 7pm with sports.

A change from your older mid, is the the PTR is available online now. VS having to wait for it to arrive in snail mail. So that will be helpful for your son! It’s supposed to drop this week.

Congrats!!

You may have better luck with the county sheriff.

This requirement is difficult to accomplish. Admissions asks that you give the form and request a response for all local police jurisdictions, if I recall correctly. To me this means the local Police Department and Sherif departments. Many will NOT do this. Some locations have laws or an ordnance prohibiting the police from giving out information with out a court order (don't go to a court). If this is the case, it's best to try to get the local police to write that on the form (I've seen that done in ink pen). Some Police are not going to even do that...if so, just write a letter to Admissions informing them when and who declined. It's even more difficult in COVID times. Either way, keep USNA Admissions informed.

For anyone who has successfully had this formed completed and to to USNA from their jurisdiction, did you receive an email from the person who originally asked for the documents? He immediately reached back to me when I sent him the body alteration and citizenship form but nothing yet with the police record check. It was mailed a couple weeks ago.

No we did not receive confirmation of receipt of docs.
but it wasn’t a problem, he made it to and thru IDay
