First time posting so sorry if I mess up anything. I am a senior in highschool and I got into CU Boulder and USD. USD was my stretch school and I was surprised I got in. I want to do AFROTC and I'm leaning towards USD but I was wary of the AFROTC being crosstown at SDSU. I love the AFROTC at Boulder, but the University of San Diego is a better school and would be more of an adventure for me.

What is Crosstown ROTC like (the commute is only 15 minutes) do you think my experience would be severely impacted if I did Crosstown ROTC instead of doing it at the same school in Boulder?

Speaking as a Navy ROTC student at a crosstown; my experiences were never hampered by the fact I didn't go to the main school. I still did all the required events, was given multiple leadership positions, etc. I loved being crosstown; I was able to have two "families," my ROTC family at school A and my school family at school B. You are apart of the family just as much. If USD is your dream school, I would say 1000% go for it. Do not settle for another school simply because it is not a crosstown. You'll regret it massively.

A 15 minute commute is no effort for four years of happiness!

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'll let you know what I decide to do. Thanks!

My son considered USD and he contacted the crosstown detachment and asked about how it works - the schedule, do they provide transportation, etc. You should do the same - email or call and dicsuss it. I don't remember the details but the logisitics were a negative in terms of plusses and minuses for considering USD (he went to USC), mostly having to do with the days they required USD students to be at the campus. They were very easty to talk to and very open, so I'd suggest you reach out to them. Good luck!

I commissioned out of Detachment 075 at SDSU and we had a large amount of cadets from USD/UCSD/Other cross towns. They never encountered an issue and had the exact same experience as students who went to SDSU.

Like I wrote, I don't remember the details but nonetheless get the logistics from the source. Though I'd recommend a phone call. They were very open to chatting and with a phone call you can ask follow up questions as opposed to having to do more reply emails. Good luck.
