CSI at The Citadel?

My DS has been accepted to The Citadel and he is considering attending the CSI transitional program over the summer. Has anyone attended this? Thoughts?
I am not a recent attendee, but volunteer as an alumnus to work for Admissions. They say students really benefit from the introduction to the physical training and benefit from taking college credit courses. Plus for cadets coming from outside the south, allows them to adjust to the heat and college environment. I hope others with recent experience comment for you.

My DS is a junior at The Citadel and CSI was cancelled his year due to covid. I have talked to quite a few cadets who attended and the general consensus is positive. If anything it will ease you into knob year, but don't expect it to be a huge advantage. I did not attend The Citadel, but we (as parents) have been very happy so far. Happy to help with anything you need.

I think its helpful for some kids, but my boys first year, there was a number of kids who went to CSI that still ended up dropping out of The Citadel. I think the best thing you can do for your son is to be very realistic about what that knob year and experience will be like, I don't think CSI gives them a true idea of the struggles they will face. It is not easy. Its difficult both mentally and physically. My boy wrestles for them, he is a very mentally and physically strong kid, and there was still difficult moments that first year.

Congratulations to your son! The Citadel is awesome - certainly the road less traveled.

My son attended CSI in 2021 before his knob year, and it was a great experience! I (and he) would highly recommend attending, if possible. Happy to answer questions about it if needed.

Thank you. I’ve signed him up. He’s going to take two classes. My plan is to have him only take 4 classes that first semester. We are from the northeast so at the very least I hope acclimating to the weather prior the regular school year starting will help.
