Curious about how final college GPA factors for placement when college does not curve grades

Since DD has a few years to go before graduation, we are aware that her ranking for desired assignment upon graduation factors final GPA (nrotc). My question then is whether the fact that a college does not curve their grades vs a college that does make any difference? My gut is probably not, but then it makes one wonder if a student should just take easier classes to boost final GPA? She is struggling in a required class hoping to pass, never to take that subject again' but it

will greatly affect her GPA. Any thoughts?

No first hand knowledge, but in one sense having the better GPA with easier classes will probably get your further. Having said that, I think that someone with a Engineering degree with a 3.2 would be equal to history major with 3.6. Nothing against history majors. The Air Force loves STEM majors so they are going to have the advantage regardless of GPA unless of course the GPA really stinks. In the end, it is more than GPA. A not spectuacular GPA can be offset by having a specutacular score in another area. But sure comparing one GPA where the schools curves their grades compared to a school who doesnt doesnt seem fair. Do they take that into consideration, I would imagine inside that Rotc detachment but may not nationally

If your asking about AROTC, they make no allowances for which school you attend, they simply look at the GPA. As far as scoring on the OML, the ADM level will add points. an ADM3 such as Biology will give an extra 3 points, an ADM4 such as Civil Engineering will give an extra 4 points. This is in place to offset majors in the ADM1 & 2 which should have higher GPAs.

When DD went through service selection in NROTC a couple of years ago, GPA counted for 45% of total score. Tier 1 majors were given a 10% bonus and Tier 2 majors a 5% bonus on their overall scores. What college you went to made no difference, all colleges were considered the same regardless of difficulty. Also some colleges convert a grade of 90-92 to a 4.0 while others convert it to a 3.67, so students with the exact same grades at different colleges could have different GPAs. Again not relevant.
In addition, any Tier 1 major with a GPA greater than 2.9, Tier 2 major with a GPA greater than 3.0, and Tier 3 major with a GPA greater than 3.2 was required to list a nuclear option (sub or carrier) as one of their choices.
