Current cadet open to answering questions for incoming plebes

The clothes you have on don't matter at all. You change after a few hours into PTs and just keep your civilian clothes in a drawer for the rest of beast. If you're wearing something crazy then you might get some comments, but it won't actually effect anything. I'd just recommend something comfortable and if it's going to be hot then plan for that.

How important is the desk fan for CBT? I bought one within the size parameters but the air flow it produces seems to be pretty pitiful, and it takes up valuable real estate in my bag. Can I skip it?
All new cadets are in air conditioned barracks during beast, so you won't need it. The AC in Ike and Mac where y'all will live is honestly really good so you'll be fine. I live in the non AC barracks so if you end up there during th academic year then you'll definitely need a fan, but you won't need it during beast.

What should I wear for r-day? Im unsure if I should wear a plain shirt or if it's ok to wear a WP shirt.
I wore a West Point shirt and athletic shorts. A lot of people will be in soemthing like that or plain clothes. The only comments I heard were towards a friend of mine who wore a Hawaiian shirt, but that was a group thing she did as a joke. I'd reccomend comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. You'll change into your low quarters later and there isn't any reason to wear them earlier than you have to.
