Current Doolie Q/A

Current appointee handbook mentions 12 V-neck (white) t-shirt to bring to BCT. Why is it V-neck instead of round neck ? Watching the Documentary "A Year in Blue - Inside the Air Force Academy" everyone have round neck t-shirt under their OCP. Am I missing something ? Are the round neck t-shirt provided by USAFA then ?
To add to what the other person said, the undershirt for OCP’s will be issued to you.

I read somewhere about a desktop fan too, I thought the room have AC.
1. Why do you need a fan ? If required one, I am thinking of the one from Costco that is compact and can rotate and also move up and down.
2. Thinking of getting a surge suppressor/extension cord with multiple plug connector too.
3. During BCT, is it better to use manual disposable shaver and toothbrush or just bring the electric ones. I'm afraid they might have limited access to plug in socket during 2nd beast.

Thanks.
There is no AC in the dorms, only heat.

You have to be able to identify your clothes by writing with a Sharpie on your undergarments. On the underwear/boxer is not a problem but on a white V-neck ? Where do you write them. It's white and whatever you write will show through. I guess it is under your outer clothes so no one can see them but once you remove the outer piece, it is going to look ugly. Any suggestions appreciated.

You won't wear the white undershirt without a blues shirt over it. So no one will see it if it is messy. Some people ironed on labels/stamps before basic with their student ID on it, but its up to you what you want to do.

1. The dorms have no AC. Fans are nice in the summer and early fall, but you can't have them during basic.
2. Don't worry about it. There will be plenty of time after basic to figure out your needs. Power cords and the like don't count as personal items. Also, they'll issue you a power strip.
3. I know people who used both. I had a non-electric and I always shaved at night. People with electric razors could shave in the morning and do it much quicker. The bathrooms in Jacks will have outlets, but sometimes they are very crowded. That being said, a good electric razor can last for quite a while on a single charge.

My ds learned that his electric shaver's battery lasts a long time last summer. He forgot to pack his charging cord when he went to BCT...oops! He got some disposable razors on one of the C-Store trips just in case but his shaver lasted all the way until we brought the power cord on Parent's Weekend. He wouldn't recommend not bring the cord but most shouldn't need charged in Jack's Valley.

Ah yes, Parents' Weekend...shopping in Walmart after midnite; there were some sights to see there believe you me!
That should be a horror movie; a bunch of teens trapped in a Walmart after midnite...
Back in the day when we dropped off our DD (2013), it was said that you could have a Bible with pictures inserted inside of & no one would mess with it, but I defer to more current posters for up-to-date info.

Can you explain how sports work during BCT in more detail? SA2026hopeful said previously in this thread that ICs practice during BCT, but what about club sports? Also, does anyone have information about the club swim team? I heard one of the cadets in the virtual tour during the virtual appointee event say that they were on the club swim team but swim is not listed under the clubs page on USAFA's website. I am hoping to join the club team as I could maybe walk on to the IC team (my times are on the edge and I dropped an unexpected amount of time at the very end of the season) but a club team is more of the commitment level I want for college.

A year in the blue is severely outdated. Kind of same as asking why not green boots instead of coyote brown.

Not aware of a club swim team, you could try to walk on to the IC team and I believe you would start that process during basic but I’m not sure, I can ask around. There is a club Triathlon team, that would start after basic.

Many of the clubs are not listed on the Academy website, but I would think there is a club swim team, and if not you can certainly start one.

To answer your question, if you are a recruited IC you will be given the opportunity to practice during basic when everyone else is doing morning PC. Some sports like boxing and cheer allow potential walk-ons to practice with them, but I don't think others do. Either way you will be getting a good 1:30-2 hour workout in each morning.

What type of pajamas does USAFA issue?
I was curious about this too, but from the threads I can gather they don't issue them anymore. People said it's a good thing because apparently they were uncomfortable and mandatory to wear some nights in BCT. Better to just sleep in PTs in my opinion so you can get straight to your workout without changing

You will be told what to sleep in during BCT, unfortunately, no USAFA pajamas.

Over the years I’ve had fun posting the Navy family pajama pic in the Navy forum, and I satisfied myself today there is an equally horrific set of AF family PJs. They can’t even get a space between “air” and “force.” With all the stuff going on in the pajama print, I’m surprised Chuck Yeager isn’t on there somewhere.

Just a thought for your holiday cards…

Note the little girl’s face, “I am never going to outlive this shame.”

Would it be hard for a doolie to get on the movement order/trip section/whatever-they-call-it-at-USAFA to an away football game? (Asking for my DS who would love to travel to the Air Force/Navy game this fall to see his brother). He would not be D&B or a cheerleader.

It was very hard this year for doolies. My ds tried to get to the AF-Army game because it was close to home and we were going but he couldn't get a spot. They just don't have a lot of doolie slots. Your ds might get priority because of his brother, though.
