Current Doolie Q/A

Can you be on the flight team or glider team and also do an IC sport? (Not football - if that matters)

It was very hard this year for doolies. My ds tried to get to the AF-Army game because it was close to home and we were going but he couldn't get a spot. They just don't have a lot of doolie slots. Your ds might get priority because of his brother, though.
My doolie son was able to go to the AF-Army game without much difficulty...the catch is that he had to pay for the flight and housing himself. He filled out the paperwork that he would be staying in a hotel with me. I drove to Dallas and met him. He was able to march out on the field and sit in the cadet section. We had a great weekend and it was a nice break for him! I think there were only about 4 paid spots per squadron where the AF would pay for the cadet's trip...so that might be hard to get.

Thank you, this is really helpful! We would absolutely pay, I'm just not certain I would've thought to suggest that first. So, we'll plan on it not working (so he won't be disappointed) but will tell him to fill out the paperwork as completely self-pay and hope for the best.

You have to be able to identify your clothes by writing with a Sharpie on your undergarments. On the underwear/boxer is not a problem but on a white V-neck ? Where do you write them. It's white and whatever you write will show through. I guess it is under your outer clothes so no one can see them but once you remove the outer piece, it is going to look ugly. Any suggestions appreciated.
Many freshmen throw their white shirts away or buy new ones because of how Goodwill washes them. Ones I bought before Basic are now cream-colored and as wrinkly as a rag in a mechanic's shop.

What is the policy on watches? I’ve heard it’s company/squadron dependent. (During BCT specifically)

I would assume you washes your own clothes once basic is over ?

C4Cs are not authorized to use the laundry facilities without squadron commander approval. A contractor will do laundry just as during BCT.

My DD brought her laundry to her sponsor's house and did it there. The C4C laundry service is a disaster. Lots of clothes went missing and whites got very discolored. She was thrilled to be able to do her own laundry in the dorm after Recognition.

Outside service similar to BCT. The brand new replacement undergarments after BCT are going to turn brown as well.:(

I've heard a few varying responses to this question: should we bring a black backpack on I-day to use as our backpack throughout the school year? Or will we be issued a backpack that we must use during the school year?

You are issued a backpack but it kind of sucks. It’s not horrible, but I would 100% recommend investing in a nicer backpack, especially one with a comfortable handle because you won’t be wearing it on your back very often

Do the boots have to be waterproof? The handbook says to get a waterproof pair (Gortex) but the Nikes and Oakleys that everyone likes aren’t waterproof. So not sure what will be best for my daughter.
I have the Nikes and I plan to wear them again for CST. (Very Durable) One thing I like about them is that they almost feel like running shoes, are light weight, and dry really fast. Highly recommend.
