Hi, does anyone know the deadline for when the Candidate Questionnaire needs to be filled out for current high school juniors (WP Class of 2026)? I saw some websites saying July going into senior year but others saying January of senior year? Also, does the SAT/ ACT score you put into that affect your ability to continue the application? Just because I will be retaking them and I'm not sure if I should wait until then to submit the questionnaire. One more thing, does taking both the SAT and ACT add any benefit/ required, or is it better to just focus on one? Thanks!

I can try to help. My son is a Junior as well and has filled the CQ. This is how I understand it: All of your application (including nomination) must be in by Jan. 31st 2022. This is a hard deadline--no extensions. The earlier you start the better. If you are on Facebook you need to go on the West Point Admissions site and listen to the application webinars. They are full of info. Yes, put on your application every SAT/ACT you have taken--even if you don't think the scores are good. Because--when you retake, it shows persistence and determination that you are continuing to try to better your scores. It does not matter if ACT or SAT but I would go ahead and take the writing. You will hear conflicting info on whether or not WP is discontinuing the writing but they still have it on the candidate portal that you need the writing--until they change that, do the writing portion.

ACT is better if you struggle in math--since your overall score is comprised of 4 parts (instead of 2 with SAT)--Reading, Writing, Science and Math. However, if you are good at math, I would take the SAT. The math portion of either test is going to be very important in your whole candidate score. You need to go ahead and submit your CQ and get things moving. The application opens June 1st for rising Seniors.

One last thing: Look up your 2 senators and congressman to see when their application deadlines are for the nomination. Do not procrastinate on that. Practice now for CFA. Hope this helps!

How will I know my application's open? I filled mine out when it first opened and haven't heard anything back, or will I need to see the portal.

Your full candidate kit will open in the summertime. I would advise now that you have completed your candidate questionnaire to continue to seek high GPA in AP/honors/IB courses, improve standardized test scores, and continue to seek leadership positions (varsity team captain, achieve eagle scout, youth group leader, boys state, class president, etc.). In addition to all of this you should contact your FFR try and arrange a phone call or just correspond via email if that's best for him. Introduce yourself, explain why you want to go to West Point and how serious you are about it, ask how you can improve your file and what your weakest points are, he can provide solid info before your candidate kit is opened up. In addition, start researching into your nomination opportunities, senators, congressman, any service connected nominations you are eligible for (you can view these under the nominations tab of your portal) see what they require (e.i. a letter of why you want a nomination, letters of recommendation, high school transcripts, test scores, an essay, a resume, etc.). Lastly, do a bunch of research into the academy on the website, look at the different sports, majors/minors, programs, military summer development schools, different posts, different branches you can go, etc. Learn about these to not only gain a better understanding about the academy, but also this is the kind of stuff you will be asked during interviews (FFR/congressional), they want to see you are prepared and did your own research instead of just willy nilly decided you wanted to go to West Point (that was me last year and I got rejected). Read old threads here on SAF, they are full of great and valuable info. One last bit of advice you may want to do is read some books like "The West Point Candidate Book", by Sue Ross and "Absolutely American", by David Lipsky.

Good luck man, and remember only worry about, and do what is in your control!
