Current NAPSter, ask anything!

Hello,

I received my appointment for NAPS class of 2022. I am enlisted and can’t wait to start this journey. However, I do wonder if there certain things you’d recommend doing before I get there to be better prepared. Thank you!
Congratulations on your Appointment. being fresh off the fleet it would seem that lots of your fellow classmates might be looking at you for answers and guidance. embrace your fleet experience and help out the youngsters.

Son will be going to NAPS through the CGS Program. He really wants to bring a car, what do you think

Don’t bother. He will get very little chance to use it.
Not true. He can use it Friday-Sunday. Plenty of people brought cars my year and everyone was glad that they did. We went into Boston or Providence pretty regularly so it was nice to have. Ubers aren't cheap and aren't guaranteed.

Not this last year you didn’t. Apart from I think 3 weekends they have been restricted to base the entire year.

That's because of COVID restrictions. That's not going to matter soon
You are assuming. Base is still on lockdown and there are no dates as yet when restrictions will be lifted. Some took there cars last year assuming they would be able to use them. That didn’t work out so well did it.

Has any present or previous Napster received a NAPs appointment this late in the game? ( I am getting nervous 😬....)
Thank you, by the way, this thread is very helpful.

I think some of the people on the waiting list have, but I'm not really sure! Everyone I know had their appointments by mid-May. Good luck, I hope you get it!

Do you know the dates for the upcoming NAPS class 2021-2022?

Nope, but if it's anything like this year it should be mid-July. I think I reported in July 10.

Hey! Congrats, first off. A few things of note. You're a prior, yes, but make sure to stay humble. There are a lot of things that you still don't know, so be sure to stay open and ready to learn from everyone. A lot of the directs this year got annoyed at some priors for constantly talking about the fleet. Remember that you're in a new place now, and no matter what your rank was when you're a prior, you are a NAPSter now. Your direct friends are NAPSters. Everyone is starting on equal grounds, and pulling rank on someone will make them dislike you more.
I wish you the best of luck! You can always PM me on here if you have more questions.

This year we really didn't have the opportunity to leave base at all. I used my car when I left base, but other than that there weren't too many chances to use it.
That being said, it was really nice to have somewhere to go where I could be 100% alone. With the lack of off-base liberty and not being able to take trips to Boston/Providence/NYC, getting some real down time away from people was difficult and it was nice to go to my car and read or listen to music. Also, it's very windy here. In the winter months it was nice to not have to walk to the NEX or the commissary to get those necessary study snack!

I'm not sure how the next year will be in terms of off-base liberty, but bringing my car was not a horrible idea. This place is survivable without it, but it was just an extra luxury.

What is your favorite part of NAPS? What is your least favorite?

I have been really enjoying the classes. I was blessed with awesome teachers, and they've really made the experience here a little better. We haven't had off base liberty (only a couple days of it in October) so I can't speak to that, but I've also made some wonderful friends here.
My least favorite part is honestly the lack of privacy/stress relief. I did know what I was getting in to when I came here, but the lack of off base really caused a lot of stress build up. I've managed to find some creative ways but that's been the most frustrating thing.

Hey, What is the usual class size of USNAPS?

We have around 250 people this year! Some have dropped for various reasons but I think the graduating class will still be around 220-230 people.

Congrats! I was told I will know by tomorrow if I get into NAPS class of 2022! I wish you the best!
May I ask who told you, "if you will get into NAPS class of 2022 tomorrow?" I am hoping for NAPS! Wishing you good news! I do not want to think of everyone who is still waiting getting TWE's tomorrow. Keep the FAITH! Fly NAVY! ⚓

An admissions personnel. Unfortunately, I didn't get in. Although I'm pursuing NROTC or enlistment now. Best to all still looking for an appointment!

Hey! As we’re getting closer to the reporting date, I’m wondering what to bring to NAPS ( and what I’m allowed to) and what to get rid of as a prior enlisted. How many uniforms and which ones would you recommend keeping? Thank you for your help!

Keep all your NWUs for sure!!! You will wear those a lot. All the other uniforms I haven’t worn once since I’ve been here. If you bring extra white/brown shirts, boot socks, dress socks, and your dress shoes that will also be helpful. If you have an Eisenhower jacket, bring that, as well as your fleece and green parka (and the black one if you have it). Those are all things that you wouldn’t have to buy all over again!!

I think they provide a packing list. Follow it. If I remember correctly it provides advice to priors on what uniforms they should bring with them.
