Current NAPSter, ask anything!

I’m just curious about the black magic of NAPS and what makes a well rounded candidate

No black magic! Honestly if you put your best foot forward and do your very best in your classes, go to extra instruction, work on your PRT, and make a decent effort to make your uniform/appearance presentable, you’ll be okay. I know it sounds like a lot, but putting a little bit of effort goes a long way.

Amazing! from what I’ve seen/heard I’ve never heard of applicants that aren’t recruited athletes or prior enlisted personnel so I was curious what percent of the applicant pool fills those remaining spots. Would be a HUGE help in many journeys including mine as it really prepares you in all the ways the academy is looking for.

Yeah! There are actually a lot of people here who don’t fit either category. NAPS was super helpful to me, personally, as it got me back on track in terms of academics.

Really? everyone that has spoken to me about it including my first BGO basically made it seem like I had no chance because I don’t fit in either category.. that said, I really appreciate the insight because I thought that was the case all along. I personally would be so grateful to receive a NAPS appointment this year as I know it would prepare me beyond what I could do to prepare myself. I’m realizing self prep is challenging but all in all it will ALL be worthwhile. Did you go to NAPS right out of high school or did you go to college first too?

Of course! Definitely not the case.
My story is a bit funky. I graduated high school and went to college for a year, then enlisted in the Navy. So I ended up applying as an enlisted candidate.

Phew! So similar boat as me just that I didn’t enlist! I’ve heard there are many benefits to that as it’s a different type of nomination. Don’t you basically just have to stand out in the fleet? or how does that work? I’ve failed the ASVAB twice so since have put that as option C

Yeah, you do. I worked my butt off and told my chain of command that I wanted to apply, but I had to meet all of their requirements for qualifications and working hours and whatnot.

Were those intense? what exactly did you have to do?

If you have struggled with the ASVAB, that may not bode well for pre-comm programs you are considering and may be a clue as to why you received a TWE earlier this year, if I understand your previous posts.

Rhetorical questions here, but have you figured out what went wrong on the ASVABs? Do you have major knowledge gaps or lack test-taking skills? See link below. There are practice tests and other prep you can do.

I received a conditional appointment to NAPS this morning after being on the waitlist. I am just waiting to get my medical. Are there any social media platforms that can have me meet the NAPS class of 2022?

Hey! I found an Instagram page, but I’m not on it so I don’t know how many people there are. I met a lot of my friends through Instagram, so I’d give it a shot!

Hey everyone! I know people will be hearing back from USNA soon about getting accepted to NAPS. I'm currently a prior enlisted student here, so if anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to answer!
So I’m a college reapplicant and feel NAPS is the necessary next step in my journey to USNA, in your opinion/experience what makes a favorable NAPS candidate?

Are you not confident in your college coursework performance in USNA plebe-like courses thus far this year? USNA will wait to see those grades after winter holiday. Essentially, you are already doing a prep year, with actual college courses. I hope you are focusing on your academics with single-minded zeal.

Admissions uses NAPS and the related Foundation Scholarship prep program in elastic ways. There is no magic formula. You should follow the guidance to re-applicants on USNa.edu, submit your best application and thrive where you are planted right now.

My situation is quite unique to say the least.. Ok to pm?

What’s the approximate month for the USNA appointments to start coming in?

For direct admits? Sep-Oct, then increasing flow as elected official nom slates come in by 1/31 and get resolved.

For NAPSters? Spring, once they have critical evaluating points met.
