Current Plebe, AMA about plebe life, I don't know how helpful I will be with Admissions stuff lol

  • How much free time do you get?
  • What you wish you knew before going to BEAST?
  • How is the campus with COVID going on?
  • How fun is it? Is it what you expected?
  • Are all classes remote?
  • Does it seem like the COVID way of life at the academy will carry over to next year from the looks of it now?

I'm also genuinely curious about the dating scene what is it like?

I am requesting permission to ask this question from a mod because there was a thread that just got shut down that asked a similar question; if it is not ok to ask please let me know and I will delete this post. @buff81 @kinnem

@bt18

1. A surprising amount, especially depending on your schedule. I usually have free time in the morning after my second class and right after practice. It's all about making sure you know your schedule so you know when you have to work and when you can relax.
2. Practice the ACFT and understand its honestly not going to be that bad. If you take yourself to seriously you will develop a certain reputation amongst your classmates. Do what your Cadre say but don't be overly afraid of them and make sure to socialize with your fellow new cadets when you can. Also don't complain all the time we have a plebe you complained throughout all of BEAST and it was super annoying....
3. COVID rules suck, hopefully they don't carry on. It's not the end of the world though.
4. Yeah its all about making fun out of situations. I am honestly having more fun so far than I thought I would. Just have the right mindset and make good friends. Also not all upperclassmen hate you, make good relationships with them, especially if they're on your team.
5.Most of my classes are currently in person or a mix of remote and in person, I only have one fully remote class.
6. I don't think it will but I can't say for sure

"I'm also genuinely curious about the dating scene what is it like?"

Haha its probably fine dude.

Yeah if you're a guy like me its best not to worry about that. We have 38 plebes in our company, and only 7 of them are girls. Just focus on making good friendships, if something happens it happens, but if not there will always be other ways to meet people.

Also for the love of god don't get a tinder your plebe year, everyone, including other plebes, will make fun of you lol

@strictlyws Not yet, so far I'm loving West Point. Sure the new G4G menu sucks but there will always be something to complain about. I was always an athlete in High School so being able to continue having practice everyday with Sandhurst is really cool and I feel like I have a great purpose in life

How many hours do you spend on academic work excluding the time spent in class? Also, how much sleep are you able to get on average during the weekdays and weekends?

Common question...but if you don't mind-What were your SAT/ACT scores? Thank you! Also, how was beast during the pandemic? Was it easier/harder?

What are Sandhurst tryouts like and/or regular training you do for it? Can females also make Sandhurst or is it predominantly males only? Also, what do you want to do after West Point?

I have a few...

How do your West Point classes compare to your high school classes? If you were a college student before West Point, how do your classes compare to normal college classes?
What's your major?
How did you prepare for CFA/BEAST/ACFT? Are you expected to be "super athletes"?
I heard rumors that some cadets were mad that they weren't getting weekends to study because of football games and exams. Is this true? Has anything happened about it yet?
What's your favorite part of West Point?
Do you regret applying?

Home Football game parade, march on, and mandatory attendance has been a long standing tradition. The virus hasn’t changed that tradition.
Any Cadet who is “mad” about attending football games is going to have a long 47 months!
On weekends without football there are other fun things they do on Saturday mornings like Company rucks and SAMIs. Study time will fit in, it just may not be when a Cadet prefers it.

@TB_Rays It's hard to say because it changes a lot from day to day, certainly atleast 2-3 hours and ussually not more than 5 hours of school work outside of class. I usually am able to go to bed around 1130 and wake up around 0600

@Hope25ful

First off, ACT and grades aren't the same for everyone or event that comparable. Just focus on doing the best you can do.

That being said, I got a 32 on the ACT but keep in mind they look at the whole candidate not just their test scores.

I have only ever gone through the one BEAST so I can't really say it was easier vs harder. I know it sucked more not being able to spend as much time in the field as other Beasts did. Our beast was very Uniform standards/West Point tradition centric, without much military training tbh

@CO2025 It is very company dependent but our company had a run, a ruck, and a couple weight lifting sessions before the plebes were officially on the team. Just don't quit and always give 100% and you'll be fine. As for male vs female, its obviously male heavy considering anything at West Point is going to have more males and females and sandhurst tends to attract people who enjoy military training, which tend to be males, but there are women on every team. Our own company has 2 women on the team and they do great and carry their own weight. Obviously I can't speak for them but I am pretty certain that they feel like they are part of the team dynamic and never feel left out.

I'm still a plebe so I don't know for certain what I want to do, but I'm thinking about branching Infantry with the 82nd Airborne.

1. West Point classes are harder, I was a direct admit so I can't say anything in relationship to other college classes though. In general people who did come from other colleges say that West Point 100% has a bigger time commitment
2. I haven't picked my major yet, but I'm looking into Law and Legal Studies and DSS
3. From a physical prospective, just make sure to have very good cardio and practice pushups everyday and work on your ball throw. You are not and will not be a super athlete on R day
4. Yeah Football games can suck if you have an exam on Monday, but at the end of the day they are never more than a 5 hour time commitment so its not the end of the world. I personally enjoy football but I'm a big sports fan so who knows
5. I enjoy Sandhurst and the people the most at West Point.
6. No regrets!
