Hey all! As we wrap up the year and get ready to welcome the Class of 2028, I'd just like to offer some knowledge as a current plebe getting recognized soon! Happy to answer any questions about beast/the academic year/all things West Point!

Hi! Thank you so much for this! I was wondering what you're allowed to have in the dorms? One thing I have been curious about is if we're allowed to have two monitors. I opted for the computer package but I also have my own monitor already, could I use both of them?

What's the math like? I've been diving back into it after being out of traditional schooling for a year, and I forgot how much I struggle with math. I'm trying to get solid on the foundational concepts before going, but am I going to have a lot of problems if I can't?

Not trying to steal TANK27's thunder, but yes you can have two. My room mate has two 27 inch monitors. I'll let them hit on what else you can have.

Whats the physical expectations on entry. R-DAY? I know an ACFT is taken and have experience. But I think even though I met the standards I am afraid that they will kick you out-- I mean obviously if youre severly overweight and can't do anything. But thats not the case for me. Whats tested and what do you think is a safe score?

I've been trying to break in my boots (Belleville TR550) and I am already getting blisters on my heels from short runs. Do you have any recommendations to prevent this beyond blister tape or is this supposed to improve as they get more worn in? I've already gone down a size from my normal shoes and am concerned since the run was very short.

Current yearling. Show up as FIT as possible. Getting through Beast will honestly be easy as long as you put decent effort - they want you to make it through. What no one tells you though is that as soon as the AY starts, you will be tested significantly on your physical capabilities in a variety of classes (PE215, swim, mil move, etc) where the grading is extremely harsh and you will struggle. Aim for a bare minimum 500+ ACFT when you show up here. They will not kick you out but don't be the weak link - train hard but smart to be in the best possible shape you can to lead.
Look into the Tactical Barbell book series and read and train them.

Math can be pretty difficult for some, especially those of us who have been out of it for a while. Do not worry. If they deem fit, they will place you in "rock math" to get you up to speed and if you happen to be good for the normal math track, you'll have plenty of peers to rely upon and learn from.

Don’t run in your boots!
Walk/ruck to break them in. Be certain they fit properly, are laced properly, and wear good (dry) socks. Don’t do your first walk/ruck for ten miles, begin gradually.
You will not be running in your boots in the future so don’t do it now …..

TANK27, I've been working towards going to USMA as class of 2029, but I have no real guidance towards the application, when completing the candidate questionnaire I haven't included my SAT and ACT scores since I haven't taken them. I know that I can submit my candidate questionnaire (CQ) without them but when I go the the application's final window that says review and submit, it reads that I can't change anything after I submit. As you're a plebe and completed the CQ already, I was hoping to know whether it's ok or not to submit the application in the review window without fear of not going back and being able to input my scores. I'm trying to complete the CQ before august of my senior year and it's already May.

You can have more than one! Just keep in mind that you're going to need to move rooms every semester, and that's just another thing to carry. I'm personally very against the computer package, but that's just my opinion.

There is a 'rock math' class designed for this purpose! USMA will accommodate you

You'll be fine. Everything tested is solely diagnostic. Don't worry about it.

I don't reccomend running in your boots, maybe go for some walks or hikes in them and gradually get your feet and boots familiar with one another. Try out some different socks and see what you like.

I am going to be honest, it's been a while since I've seen the application portal, and they completely changed the website from when I applied. I will ask around and try to get you an answer.

why are you against the computer package if you don't mind me asking?

very expensive. cadets are always selling their printers and monitors for no more than $30 a pop. Every company already has a printer too, so it's just extra stuff you really don't need.
