Current Plebe at USMA

Sorry to steal the Plebe's thread but it appears they've become busy with Plebe things --

During your Plebe year you have very little control over your academic schedule. You will take a lot of "gen eds" like English, Chemistry, Physics, math, history, etc. Here is an example of a four-year schedule of courses you will take. Your credits will vary dramatically based on your major.

Do credits transfer? I am a class of 26' applicant currently at civilian college. I came here already with lots of credits and have taken mostly pre-recs for an ME major this year. Would I have to retake any of these classes at WP or would my schedule be filled with other things?

Your schedule will always be full. Credits don’t transfer, but you can validate classes based on performance in previous college classes, placement exams, and AP exams that can eliminate general required classes for you to take major classes early, free up space to minor in something, work on research, or take other classes that interest you

Other than the cadet stipend are there any ways to make money at USMA?
I’ll take this one.

Mom and dad.

One thing that IS the same thing as ‘regular college’. I’ve at least learned to require pics.

We do what we can here and there. And with joy. For all our kiddos. And it’s greatly appreciated. Not required.

I know people who made money at USNA and I've been told by USMA grads that it was the same there.
Not a lot of money but there were always a few who managed to make up Tshirts that people liked and
bought or other "enterprises" that seem to crop up here and there. I know of one case where a Mid was
getting tutored by a formal tutor hired by his parents - used to come in and work with him in the library
on a couple of weeknights to help him get through plebe academics. as time went on, he found he was
going to a classmate for help on non-tutoring nights and eventually dropped the formal tutor and just
got help from the classmate. His parents took the money that was going to the tutor and gave it to the
classmate. Also, I never did it but many folks will pay someone to take a watch or duty for them.

How much do plebes receive in discretionary funds per month? In other words, how much is left for the plebes to spend as they please after the allotment for books and uniforms is taken out? Thanks!

What is your daily schedule like, including any clubs, plebe duties, and sports (intramurals or intercollegiate) that you participate in?

What are some differences in academic classes and homework that you had to adjust to?

If you took any, how much harder are advanced plebe classes? I have taken AP tests that I would be interested in validating, but from what I could have to take a follow-up exam at West Point, and I can only move to an advanced section, rather than test out of the class.

What are some of the changes (like plebe duties and activities) from CBT to the time period before recognition, and after?

I know this is a lot of questions, but thank you for your help!
